28 Days of 'Mania: My 12 Ultimate Matches of All-Time

David LevinJun 7, 2018

About "28 Days of Mania": This will be an ongoing series for the next 28 days, leading up to the biggest event in sports entertainment, WrestleMania 28. The idea behind the piece is to build more momentum for the event and give you, the Bleacher Report fan, a chance to read, comment and weigh in with opinions about the WWE, the business and the event. It is my hope this becomes something positive and we all enjoy the ride for the next four weeks to Miamiand the biggest event of the wrestling year. Enjoy.

We finally made it. The 28-day journey has brought us to South Beach and WrestleMania 28. Thanks to everyone for reading my feature daily. I wanted to share a little of my love for wrestling with you.

For our final installment, we are playing the "make believe" game of WrestleMania. I have assumed the role of Vince McMahon and put together 12 great matches that I would want to see on wrestling's biggest stage.

While some of them have already happened, most have been talked about, but we never saw them at any stage. But, man, they would have been exciting.

So, without any further delay, here is the ultimate WrestleMania wrestling card.

Bret Hart vs. CM Punk

1 of 12

What a great way to start off the night.

The "Best There Ever Will Be" vs. "The Best in the World."

I have heard WWE commentators talk about this on television. What a great match where there are technically-sound performers in the ring.

Think Chris Jericho would have something to say about this?

The Road Warriors vs. Demolition

2 of 12

They have met before, but honestly I never saw it.

The original cast of characters (Hawk and Animal) who set the tone for everyone else in the business—they won every title imaginable.

Then you have Demolition, WWF's knockoff that was pretty darn good. So good that they needed to add a third to their rendition.

And of course there is Mr. Fuji there to possibly cause a stir.

Rick Rude vs. Mr. Perfect

3 of 12

One of those battles that could have been one of the best ever, but the WWF creative teams never put heel vs. heel in a match.

Too bad, because this one could have been the best of all-time. We all know how technically sound Hennig was and Rude was one of the most underrated wrestlers of all-time.

Put them in the ring for 10 matches and I bet you get a 5-5 draw.

Chris Benoit vs. Eddie Guerrero

4 of 12

Best friends who could make magic in the ring.

When they were WWE champions at the same time, I was excited as hell. The WWF was leaning on smaller cruiserweights and it was paying off.

Benoit was the best at his craft and no one worked harder than Eddie.

Instant classic!

Trish Stratus vs. Lita

5 of 12

I just want to see this again.

Two of the most dominant women's wrestlers in the ring together again. And they don't look too bad, either.

Yes, I said that. Vince McMahon was thinking it.

But Lita and Trish do have a chemistry in the ring and in interviews that you find is rare in this business.

Bring them back one more time.

Terry Funk vs. Mick Foley

6 of 12

This is not a hardcore match. I just want to see a match where both were in their prime and see who can come out on top.

Funk was one of the best mat stars in the NWA before leaving for other avenues.

Foley has always been decent and a real crowd favorite.

And they have been friends and foes in the ring. It should be interesting.

Hulk Hogan vs. John Cena

7 of 12

The Hogan of the 1980s meets the current-day Hogan.

Lots of red in this match.

Hogan is bigger, stronger and not as agile, but will sell the hell out of a match.

Cena will prove he is the best face this company has ever had.

Daniel Bryan vs. Chris Jericho

8 of 12

Bryan and Jericho may put on a clinic.

I want to see the agility of both wrestlers and see if they match up to Hart and Punk.

Bryan is more agile than I give him credit and we all know Jericho is a Class-A performer.

Good middle-of-the-night match. It's happened before. It should happen again.

Ricky Steamboat vs. Shawn Michaels

9 of 12

The one that got away.

If this one had happened, oh, the roof would come off the building.

This could be as good as Steamboat vs. Savage or even better.

And two classy faces in the ring could make the WWE rock like it hasn't rocked in years.

First of four really great matches to end the night.

Ric Flair vs. Arn Anderson

10 of 12

It has happened before—once before.

Let's see who the better wrestler is. Arn never won a world title and he and others like Rude and maybe Kevin Von Erich will be the ones people always ask why they never held world gold.

Flair, as we know, is the best the business ever had, but I think Anderson is just a bit better.

Undertaker vs. Sting

11 of 12

OK, can Sting break the streak?

Everyone wants to see this match, well, except me.

I think Sting vs. 'Taker is not as good as Triple H or HBK vs. The Deadman.

But it will be the one thing that allows Sting to retire as a true icon in this business.

And make you all happy.

The Rock vs. Steve Austin

12 of 12

The best of all-time.

They have met in three WrestleMania events. Can't they bring it one more time?

When you have these two men in the ring together, electricity erupts and magic happens.

They are as good as Brisco and Race and Dusty and Flair.

That is the highest compliment I can give them.
