Miami Marlins: Jose Reyes and Hanley Ramirez Make a Dye-Namic Duo

Ian CasselberryJun 4, 2018

This is what happens when you ask a man to cut off his dreadlocks.

Upon signing a six-year, $106 million contract with the Miami Marlins, shortstop Jose Reyes was told he'd have to shear the beloved braids he'd worn for the past three years and go clean-cut, as per team policy.

Reyes complied and was able to make a show of it, getting his hair cut on MLB Network and donating the locks to charity. (The shorn dreads eventually fetched $10,200 on eBay, with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Dare we ask what the winning bidder did with the hair?)

But apparently, Reyes could only comply with conventional hair for so long.

On Thursday, he and teammate Hanley Ramirez showed up to Marlins camp with their hair dyed orange. Ramirez posted a picture of the new 'dos on his Twitter account. Best orange-hair friends forever!

(Big League Stew's Kevin Kaduk coined the nicknames "Strawberry Shortstop" and "Rusty Ramirez" for the two. He wins the day.)

Those guys know that their hair will be covered up by caps most of the time, right? Maybe Ramirez wants it that way. I realize he's holding up his index finger in kind of a "We're No. 1" gesture. But from the angle, doesn't it also look like he's saying, "Shhh!" Like, please don't tell anyone I did this.

Asked if he'd soon join his teammates in the hair-to-dye-for club, Omar Infante not-so-politely declined.

"No chance," Infante told CBS Sports' Danny Knobler. "Too ugly."
