Six Questions Glasgow Rangers Fans Deserve Answered

Never can I remember witnessing such a diverse set of contradictory issues at our club, indeed quite possibly at any club. The arrival of Walter Smith et al a couple of seasons ago at a time when Rangers Football Club was threatening to implode, heralded a quite dramatic shift in outlook and performances. Initially a huge dose of fresh air was breathed through the club, here we had the old master back at the helm and it seemed the good times were rolling back.

The success in the UEFA cup run and the capture of two domestic trophies was a great achievement and very enjoyable and satisfying for all the fans. However even through these times, bewildering conundrums were emerging on the pitch with Walters sometimes infuriating tactics and selections, and off the pitch with the continuous speculation of finances, stadium development, Sir David Murray wanting to sell the club and transfer deals etc.

Today we as a club appear to be in one big mess and it seems that for all Sir David Murray's rhetoric to the contrary no one knows what the hell is going on.

Although it is well documented that we are not in a strong financial position I for one don't believe that is our biggest problem. Both Murray and Walter are well aware of the need for appropriate fiscal measures at the club as they have kept harping on about and the fans appreciate and accept that, particularly in today's worldwide economic doom.

Bearing these facts in mind there are frustrating questions on supporters minds which must be answered such as-

"1. Why have we got a squad of 28 first team players in the first place if we dont need them all—who is responsible for that?

2. Why did we pay 3.5 million for Kyle Lafferty, 2.5 million for Maurice Edu and 1 million for Velicka in the last window and then play one sparingly (out of position) and leave the other 2 in the reserves? (Bearing in mind we dont have money to throw away).

3. Why spend money on the facilities at Murray park and then neglect the opportunity to utilise younger players in the first team?

4. We have players such as—McCulloch, Burke, Hemdani, Dailly, Webster, Smith, Velicka, (Gow), Edu, Beasley, Adam, who are at the forefronts of supporters minds when it comes to offloading players and yet we decide to sell our and the countrys top marksman ?

5. Why did the club delay the signing of players in the summer such as Steve Davis, meaning we lost to FB Kaunas and then after being knocked out proceed to go and spend millions on players that would have won that tie for us? (Wheres the logic in that MR Murray ??)

6. Why make bizarre statements regarding the strict fiscal running of the club and then make one about "Not budgeting for being knocked out of Europe"?"

There are many many other bewildering things regarding - tactics, substitutions, team selections, players being played out of position, attacks on our club, lack of defence of our supporters etc etc, questions and equations that need to be answered and solved.

Just what is going on inside the corridors of Ibrox/Murray park? - A question for which an answer is becoming increasingly more difficult to fathom. I have historically been a protagonist of both Murray and Walter, but my confidence and trust in them is at such a low ebb now I'm not sure if these two actually can turn things around.

Sometimes, certainly in the case of our current finances you have to accept that there are constraints etc, but what I cannot accept is mismanagement of resources and situations, something which is the predominant factor at Rangers.

The only solution outside of a total takeover of the club is to bin our current action plan/strategy ( if one even exists ) and go back to the drawing board. A fresh analysis of the playing staff is required urgently, followed by a clear out of deadwood. We would benefit more by concentrating on quality rather than quantity and having a clue how your going to utilise a player before you buy him.

I hope that SDM and Walter are true to their words and do in fact have the clubs best interests at heart, because if they have taken us as far as they can then its time to step aside and let some others come in.

After saying all of this I still think we still have a good chance of winning the league this season, I think we have some great players and I believe in them. I honestly even giving the financial climate believe we aren't too far away from having a team which can be very successful backed up by a promising bunch of Murray Park youngsters. We are just being hindered by bad management decisions.

Forget about selling Boyd and concentrate on stability, because that is what we need to make a real challenge. The fans have been terrific since Walters return and they deserve to see the club run more efficiently.

Get it sorted before its too late.
