Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: Floyd's Comments Gives Hope Dream Fight Could Happen
The most anticipated boxing match ever might actually go down, especially given the recent comments from one "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Everyone wants to see him step in the ring to battle Manny Pacquiao, but for years the two sides have yet to work things out, leaving many to believe it will never happen.
According to BoxingScene.com, Mayweather want's to fight five more times before he calls it a career.
"Safe to say, probably—this one [with Cotto] plus five more," Mayweather said.
This is really exciting because it leaves more room for Mayweather vs. Pacquiao to happen sometime down the road.
After fighting Miguel Cotto on May 5, Mayweather will rest up before he heads to the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas on June 1 to spend 87 days in jail.
Mayweather added that he doesn't intend to fight six strong champions, but boxing fans won't care who he steps into the ring with as long as one of them is Pacquiao.
Nobody knows for sure if the fight will ever occur. But the knowledge that Mayweather wants to take place in five more fights, as well as the fact that both parties almost worked out a deal not too long ago, means there's a strong chance it could happen.
Of course, boxing fans would have preferred to see both fighters go toe-to-toe during their prime years, but hey, something is definitely better than nothing.
Both Pacquiao and Mayweather are getting up there in age, but since everyone has been waiting for what feels like ages for these two to fight, fans will gladly settle for these guys fighting in their late 30s than never fighting at all.
