WWE Mailbag: Answering Your Questions on John Cena, Kane, Undertaker and More
Welcome to B/R's WWE Mailbag.
The format is as simple as it appears: You ask the questions, and I give the answers.
Today, I'm going to address questions regarding The Undertaker's future, Sheamus's past and even a couple of inquiries about that "other" promotion. I think it's called TNA.
So, sit back, relax and enjoy while I do all the work and try to start several interesting debates.
Here is the inaugural edition of the WWE Mailbag.
How Many More Matches for the Undertaker?
1 of 10how many matches/wrestlemanias should we expect to see from the undertaker after wm28?
This is a common question, sure, but it's one worth answering.
Realistically, I don't think there's any chance that The Undertaker retires after WrestleMania 28. Taker is one of the biggest legends in wrestling history, and whenever he's about to hang it up for good, I think the WWE is going to make a really big deal out of it.
That doesn't mean just teasing it with all this "end of an era" stuff. It's not going to be the end of either the Undertaker or Triple H eras at Mania.
To be honest, I'd say that the Deadman has two matches left in him: At WrestleManias 29 and 30.
While Undertaker is getting up there in age (he turns 47 tomorrow), having to work just one match a year helps him stay as healthy as possible, and there are just too many money matches that he still has left in him.
John Cena, Chris Jericho, The Rock and even Brock Lesnar are huge names that could face Undertaker at WrestleMania 29 or 30 and draw mega money. I think the WWE and Undertaker himself know that, and will at least try to make a couple of those matches happen before he calls it quits.
The Best of a Bad Bunch
2 of 10who the best wrestler? Mason Ryan, Zeke Jackson, or the Great Khali?
This is the week's comedy question.
I feel like it's on par to playing "Cliff, Bone, Marry" (anyone know that game?) with three incredibly unattractive women, but I guess I'll answer it anyway.
In fact, I think we can throw The Great Khali off the cliff right away because he's just awful in all aspects of everything. Can't sell, can't do anything athletic and can't even walk, really.
Then, I think we can throw Ezekiel Jackson off the cliff right behind him. No offense to Big Zeke, but a move set that consists almost entirely of clotheslines, body slams and a Torture Rack isn't impressing anybody.
That leaves Mason Ryan as the winner of your "Pick the Best of a Bad Bunch" Sweepstakes. While he's far from fantastic, at least he's improved since debuting last year and continues to do so whenever he appears on Superstars.
Congratulations to Ryan for winning a "Best Wrestler" award for the first and last time.
Was Sheamus Pushed Too Fast Upon His Debut?
3 of 10was Sheamus pushed too fast back in 2009?
Yeah, I don't think there's any question about it.
Sheamus debuted on ECW on June 30, 2009, and then won the WWE Championship on Dec. 13 at the WWE TLC pay-per-view, which means that it took him less than six months to win a World title. That's Brock Lesnar territory right there.
While I've always been impressed with Sheamus, that's just not enough time to get someone over at the World title level, especially when he was completely unfamiliar to the WWE fans beforehand.
I like to compare Sheamus to Alberto Del Rio because both men were impressive right upon their debuts, but you could make a case that both of them were also pushed far too hard, far too soon.
That's why Sheamus' first two runs as WWE Champion were largely failures, and the same can be said for Del Rio.
I get that the WWE was going for the "shock factor" by having Sheamus beat John Cena to win the WWE title, but it's always hard to get a newcomer over when the fans haven't developed a firm opinion of him yet.
Any More World Title Runs for Big Show?
4 of 10Will Big show ever win the world heavyweight championship again?
No, I think The Big Show is done as a legitimate World title contender.
He was in the World Heavyweight Championship picture for the last six months or so, and all it resulted in was a 45-second title reign that was meant mainly to help turn Daniel Bryan heel.
If Big Show was around the title that long and held it for less than a minute, then I think it's going to be really hard for him to get a legitimate run at any point down the road.
The WWE has established veterans who are better in the ring (Randy Orton, CM Punk, Chris Jericho, John Cena, etc.) an a new crop of rising superstars (Daniel Bryan, Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler, etc.) who are going to make it really hard for Show to win either the WWE or World Heavyweight Championship again.
That's exactly how it should be, though.
When Will Randy Orton Be World Champion Again?
5 of 10When will Randy Orton be world champion again?
When I first read this question, I thought it said "Will Orton be World Champion again?," and I then thought to myself that whoever asked it can't be serious.
Anyway, I think this depends largely on what happens during the 2012 WWE Draft, which is likely going to take place around the time of the pay-per-view after WrestleMania, Extreme Rules.
When Orton was drafted to Smackdown last year, he was instantly thrust into the World title scene and won the World Heavyweight Championship to establish him as the face of the brand, and I could see something similar happening this year if he's relocated to Raw.
The main factor in determining how long it takes him to win a World title, however, is whether his brand's World champion is a face or a heel. If he moves to Raw and, let's say, Chris Jericho is the WWE Champion, I could definitely see Orton taking the WWE title from Y2J this summer.
If he and Daniel Bryan both stay on Smackdown (and Bryan's still World champion), I could definitely see him taking that title off Bryan this summer as well.
To be honest, though, I think both baby faces (Sheamus and CM Punk) are walking out of WrestleMania as champions, so Orton will likely have to wait a while to challenge for a title.
That being said, Orton's been out of the title picture since last October, and I think he's going to be primed for a big title match (and a victory) at this year's SummerSlam pay-per-view.
Purely a hunch on my part.
Super Taker?
6 of 10what is the difference between Super Cena/Orton and Undertaker? Taker is undefeated at WM and was a world champ most of the time he was a full time wrestler. Don't know why the IWC hates Cena and Orton but loves Taker.
I see what you're saying, but there is a major difference between those three.
The Undertaker has been around the WWE since 1990 and has won seven World titles. That's a lot, sure, but it doesn't seem like so much when you compare it to Randy Orton or John Cena.
Orton and Cena both debuted in 2002, and Orton already has nine World title reigns while Cena has a whopping 12. That's considerably more than Taker has had in less than half the amount of time.
I don't think you can really compare Undertaker to Cena or Orton because Taker's undefeated streak at WrestleMania was something that happened by mistake, and when the WWE realized that it was going on, they turned it into a storyline.
The superhero-like booking of Cena and, to a lesser extent, Orton, however, is something that's clearly done by the creative team and largely has happened all year long for the last several years.
I think the main reason why Cena and even Orton get so much hate and Undertaker doesn't stems mainly from what I just mentioned. Undertaker doesn't beat people all year long because he's just not around much anymore.
Meanwhile, Cena and Orton are on our TV screens all year long, which makes some of us get sick of them a lot quicker.
Will the WWE Championship Match Be the Best Bout at WrestleMania 28?
7 of 10will y2j vs punk steal the show at wm28?
The Rock vs. John Cena is going to have the most excitement and electricity, and Triple H vs. The Undertaker is going to be another classic match that's somewhere in the four-to-five star range.
But to be honest, I think Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk will indeed be the show-stealing match at WrestleMania 28.
While gimmick matches (like Hell in a Cell) can by really fun, the WWE Championship match between Punk and Jericho is going to be one phenomenal bout that features two amazing wrestlers who legitimately are among the best in the world.
The feud itself has been great over the last couple of weeks, and the great storytelling from their rivalry should translate to great storytelling in their match at Mania.
If you look at the last two series of matches where Punk was paired with the right opponent (against John Cena last year and Daniel Bryan earlier this year), they were all phenomenal.
If you do the same for Jericho (his feuds with Shawn Michaels in 2008 and Rey Mysterio in 2009), we got some incredible matches out of him as well.
Punk and Jericho are two guys who always perform well in high-profile matches, and when you throw a WWE Championship and a WrestleMania atmosphere into the mix, they're going to step their games up to an even higher level and prove why they call themselves the best in the world.
Which TNA Star Would Be a Star in WWE?
8 of 10What TNA Star do you think would do the best if they made the move over to WWE?
Admittedly, I don't watch TNA on a regular basis because it has the tendency to drive me crazy.
But from everything I've seen, heard and read, it seems like Bobby Roode would have the best chance of making it to the WWE and actually succeeding there.
While AJ Styles might be the best wrestler in TNA, I just don't see the WWE giving him a push past the mid-card. Samoa Joe is another name that's been linked to the WWE in the past, but his look is what would prevent him from doing much of note there.
That's why I have to go with Roode.
He's got the size and the look that Vince McMahon loves, and he's both charismatic enough and good enough in the ring to make some noise in the WWE.
It's a shame that TNA didn't really get behind Roode as a singles wrestler until recently and that he's already 35 years old, because he probably could have went to WWE earlier on in his career had he gotten more of a chance as a singles star.
Has Masked Kane Been a Failure?
9 of 10has masked Kane been a failure?
Yes, absolutely.
The idea behind bringing back masked Kane (at least in my view) should have been to turn him back into an unstoppable monster, and though he was booked in that manner immediately upon his return, that fizzled away incredibly quickly.
The "embrace the hate" storyline went nowhere, Kane basically jobbed to Cena at Elimination Chamber, and now, he's feuding with Randy Orton in a rivalry that no one really seems to care about and will probably result in him losing at WrestleMania.
How can masked Kane not be a failure?
He's in no better position now than he was before he put the mask back on, and there's nothing to indicate that things are going to get better for the Big Red Monster anytime soon.
I was one of the people advocating for Kane to return to his masked form, and I guess I learned the hard way to be careful what I wish for.
Would Cena Still Be a Star If He Was in TNA?
10 of 10Would John Cena still be a megastar if he was in TNA?
No. No chance whatsoever.
The major difference between the WWE and TNA is that the WWE does a much better job in marketing its product. WWE is everywhere: On cups at 7/11, t-shirts, talk shows, ESPN, video games, etc.
But TNA doesn't even exist in mainstream culture. You don't see it anywhere. You don't turn on the TV and see Samoa Joe on The Tonight Show or anything of that nature, and that's where the WWE destroys TNA.
So, if John Cena was working for TNA instead of the WWE, he wouldn't be nearly as mainstream as he is today. Of course, Cena is talented, but he is who he is today because the WWE machine helped him become that megastar.
Without the WWE, Cena is probably on the same level as Bobby Roode. Yeah, Cena's the TNA World Champion, but that's about it.
He isn't starring in movies, signing major endorsement deals or headlining a pay-per-view against The Rock. He's wrestling in front of a few hundred people in Orlando and performing on pay-per-views that only receive 10,000 pay-per-view buys.
Cena would probably be the biggest star in TNA, but even the biggest TNA stars can't rival what the WWE machine can do for someone.
