Dunleavy: An Example of Why Brandon Jennings Might Leave Milwaukee
Brandon Jennings once drew ire when his eyes gazed upon bigger markets. Such an admission is often frowned upon, as we expect our athletes to robotically chase victory, oblivious to all other conditions. We're also the same people who focus far more on larger-market teams.
Today, Henry Abbott cited this ode to Mike Dunleavy, and the link was followed by, "He plays for the Bucks, by the way." You have to wonder if the casual—or even involved—fan knows of Dunleavy's location, let alone his recent exploits.
And it isn't as though Mike Dunleavy plays for a bad team. Though below .500, Milwaukee is on the rise. They added Monta Ellis and Ekpe Udoh. They also have roughly the same chance at making the playoffs as the Knicks do. Those same Knicks are drawing an immense amount of attention on account of a five-game win streak, while the Bucks boast an unheralded streak of six.
Brandon Jennings was barely considered for the All-Star team, and Rajon Rondo made it as an injury reserve despite notching a worse efficiency rating. Market size isn't the only reason for why Jennings gets little acclaim. He certainly could stand to shoot less or shoot better. But if Milwaukee is waltzing into the playoffs amid very little coverage, I can certainly see why BJ might look elsewhere when his deal's up.
