Will TideyJun 5, 2018

Welcome to a new feature bringing you the best quotes of the world football week.

This being the age of social media, we'll be sure to trawl Twitter, as well as all the usual sources, to bring you the defining utterances of the last seven days.

Our first edition features Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish reacting to Wednesday night's loss to QPR, Bolton boss Owen Coyle on his team returning to action following the events at White Hart Lane last Saturday, Cesc Fabregas heaping some man love on Lionel Messi, and much more besides.

And away we go...

Kenny Has No Answers

1 of 8

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish was left flabbergasted on Wednesday night after watching his team give up a comfortable 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 against struggling QPR.

Here's what King Kenny told reporters after the game at Loftus Road:

"

"I don't have any answers. We dominated the game. We were really creative, thoughtful and professional but they have walked away with three points."

Lio Has Cesc Appeal

2 of 8

Cesc Fabregas took to Twitter to hail his teammate Lionel Messi this week, after the atomic flea became Barcelona's record scorer by scoring his eighth hat-trick of the season against Granada.

Here's what @cesc4official had to say about it:

"

"Congratulations to Leo for breaking the goal scoring record of scoring the most goals in the history of Barcelona FC. Amazing my friend!!"

"

Blatter on the 'Scourge' of Football

3 of 8

FIFA president Sepp Blatter is strutting his stuff at the UEFA conference in Istanbul this week, where he took the chance to address the issue of match fixing.

Here's what Blatter had to say on the matter:

"

"We are working hard against the scourge of match-rigging which is undermining our sport.

I am very happy that, together with UEFA and the other confederations, the early warning system we have been working on for one year very closely with Interpol is working

FIFA, UEFA and all the other confederations are not responsible for all the evils besetting our world but we must see to it that we stay alert."

Coyle on Bolton Returning to Action

4 of 8

It's been the most emotionally draining of weeks for everybody involved at Bolton Wanderers, as the club tries to come to terms with the cardiac arrest suffered by young midfielder Fabrice Muamba at White Hart Lane.

The news surrounding Muamba's condition gets better by the day, but on Saturday his teammates face the challenge of getting back on the football pitch against Blackburn Rovers.

Here's what manager Owen Coyle had to say about the game at The Reebok Stadium:

"

"Will it be difficult? Absolutely. The thoughts are with Fabrice to make sure he continues that recovery.

I wouldn't ask anybody to play who felt they couldn't. So far, no-one has told me they don't want to be involved.

There comes a point that we have to play our games and move forward."

Tevez Returns

5 of 8

Carlos Tevez took a break from playing golf in Buenos Aires to return to the Manchester City first team against Chelsea last night. How very altruistic of him.

Lo and behold, Tevez came off the bench to set up City's winner for Samir Nasri. Here's what his manager Roberto Mancini had to say about it:

"

"Carlos is not 100% but that is normal. But he knows the football. That was important because he did an incredible assist for Samir. What happened with him finished one month ago when Carlos came back and everything was finished.

I have spoken to Carlos every day in the last month. He knew he would be on the bench today and would probably play for 20 minutes. If he can find good form in 10 days that would be important for us. Now it is important for him to play some games, for us, him and his future."

Barton Slams the Boo Boys

6 of 8

The ever-newsworthy Joey Barton was booed by QPR fans during their 3-2 win against Liverpool on Wednesday night.

Here's what he had to say to his 1.3 million followers on Twitter after the game:

"

"I was awful tonight. Worst I've ever played in my career. But we WON...and that's the most important thing. Onwards and upwards.

Disappointed with fans booing, we're meant to be in it together. They won't break me, guaranteed. I've been through much worse. Form is temporary, class is permanent.

Enough of the negative shit anyway. What a f*cking result, great spirit shown by the boys and loyal fans tonight. Not the bells that booed."

Mute Mourinho

7 of 8

An ironic inclusion for Jose Mourinho, who refused to talk to the press after being sent to the stands as his Real Madrid team were held to 1-1 draw by Villarreal.

The Special One got his marching orders for clapping the referee's decision to award Villarreal a free-kick with seven minutes to go, from which Marcos Senna fired home Villarreal's equalizer.

Mourinho joined Real's fitness coach Rui Faria in the stands, who had been sent off earlier in the game.

Sergio Ramos and Mesut Ozil would also see red before the night was out, capping a rather maddening evening for Mourinho's men.

Madrid's lead at the top of La Liga has now been cut to six points over Barcelona.

Maradona Laughs off Shilton Snub

8 of 8

Former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton reportedly snubbed the chance to meet up with Diego Maradona in Abu Dhabi recently.

Apparently Shilton is still scarred by Maradona's infamous "hand of God" goal against England at the 1986 World Cup.

But 26 years' later, Maradona clearly thinks it's time Shilton moved on. “The incident is just a memory," he said.
