Mike Wallace: Why Pro Bowl Wideout Would Be Smart to Stay in Pittsburgh

Mike MoraitisMar 21, 2012

After the type of season Mike Wallace had with the Pittsburgh Steelers, his hometown team is doing whatever they can to save him from the mistake of leaving town.

Along with the money, there are several reasons why Wallace would benefit if he committed to the Steelers long-term and listened to the advice given by Pittsburgh's legendary wide out Hines Ward.

NFL Teams That Can Go Worst to First 📈

When it's all said and done, Ben Roethlisberger will be the best Steelers quarterback ever to take the field. His championship pedigree and hardware are rarely matched by NFL quarterbacks throughout the league.

Coming off the biggest season of his career, it's pretty clear that big things are coming for Big Ben and the Pittsburgh passing attack. For a team that has traditionally been run-first, this new approach will greatly benefit Wallace's career.

As long as he's healthy, Wallace will have the ball coming his way, and that will mean big numbers for the rest of his career.

Chance to win

There are many teams in the league that offer a great place to win for Wallace, but few can match the overall competitiveness of the Steelers' organization year in and year out.

Not only are they a perennial playoff team, they have also won more Super Bowls than any team in NFL history.

You can't argue with that track record, and Wallace will have plenty of chances to obtain Super Bowl rings with Pittsburgh should he stay. If winning matters, then Pittsburgh is the place to be.

Long-term security

If you are a winning player on the Pittsburgh Steelers and you keep your nose clean off the field, they have proven to be loyal to their players.

Sure, Ward was cut by the Steelers this season, but that was after 14 years with the team and multiple Super Bowls. Ward was also coming off the worst season of his career, and like I said before, loyalty comes with production in Pittsburgh.

That said, as Big Ben can attest to, when you do mess up, this is a team that has your back.
