English Premier League: Top 10 Players from the Bottom 5 Clubs
When you look at the bottom of the Premier League table, sometimes you have to do a double-take.
Bolton Wanderers, Wolves and Queens Park Ranges in serious trouble? Blackburn Rovers have such a strong team, why are they down there in the relegation mixer?
Each of the bottom five teams have quality, proven players. We've seen some good individual performances despite poor team efforts?
Who are the top 10 players among the bottom five clubs?
Read on, enjoy the slideshow and offer your opinion if it differs to mine!
10. Ryo Miyaichi
1 of 11Starting us off is Arsenal youngster Ryo Miyaichi, currently on loan at Bolton Wanderers.
He's only made a few appearances since his January move but I've been suitably impressed.
The goal he scored in the FA Cup was Thierry Henry-esque and his movement and passing will suit Arsenal down to the ground.
Arsene Wenger must be so thankful to Owen Coyle as Bolton really know how to develop a young player.
9. Matt Jarvis
2 of 11Matt Jarvis was the subject of speculation regarding a big-money move last summer.
Wolves have managed to keep hold of him for now but are unlikely to if they get relegated. The English speedster represents a dying breed of player who can get to the byline and cross the ball.
He can also come inside and shoot, using both feet. His performances aren't as good as last season and if they were he'd be higher on this list.
8. Jamie O'Hara
3 of 11Jamie O'Hara should really be performing better for Wolves but such is the low quality of creative midfielders down at the bottom of the Premier League table, he makes the list anyway.
He's not been awful, we just expect a lot more from him. He shone whilst on loan but has tailed off now that he's permanently staying in Wolverhampton.
We've not seen the best of him or his left foot this season but he remains a creative threat.
7. Heidar Helguson
4 of 11Heidar Helguson is another striker who has excelled this season.
He has scored eight goals in 13 appearances—very impressive. He even featured in another piece of mine, detailing the most aerially dominant players in the Premier League.
He's a reliable penalty taker and a force in the box. He's really made a splash in England's top tier despite being in the latter stages of his career.
6. Mark Davies
5 of 11Mark Davies has been a pleasant surprise in Bolton's midfield this season.
He shows ambition and confidence when marauding forward coupled with a good defensive instinct.
He's developing into a very decent player and his goal against Liverpool this season will not be forgotten quickly.
5. Alejandro Faurlin
6 of 11The controversial Alejandro Faurlin has been a steady rock in Queens Park Rangers' underperforming midfield.
Unlike Joey Barton and Shaun Wright-Phillips, the Argentinian has been a calm and consistent presence in the middle of the park, maintaining a pass completion percentage of over 80 percent.
If QPR survive the drop, the fuss over his signing will be well and truly worth it.
4. Wayne Hennessey
7 of 11At times you might feel sorry for Wayne Hennessey.
He's actually a very talented goalkeeper and will be a Premier League standard player for years to come, but the Wolves defence has been behaving strangely this season and haven't helped him out.
If there's a weakness in his game, it's his stopping and handling of long-range shots, but other than that he's a solid, all-round performer.
Wolves will want to hold on to him as a good 'keeper is invaluable.
3. Steven Fletcher
8 of 11Steven Fletcher has done remarkably well to reach the 10-goal mark this season.
He is feeding off some good creative outlets but his Wolves side has struggled all season.
Fletcher is another player who is worth his weight in gold because of his goal-poaching ability. An ability that will be seriously assessed by Premier League clubs should Wolves slip out of the top division.
2. Junior Hoilett
9 of 11Junior Hoilett has been sensational this season and has very much adapted to the Premier League despite his small stature.
He's fast, agile and great on the ball. He makes opportunities for himself and others, prone to the odd screamer of a goal and represents great work on behalf of the Blackburn scouting department.
Junior Hoilett is listed among my Top 30 Upcoming Bosman Free Transfers. A shame Rovers will likely lose him for a tribunal fee.
1. Yakubu
10 of 11Yakubu has been seriously impressive this season.
Blackburn Rovers have spent the majority of this season rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table and yet the Nigerian powerhouse has 14 goals in 20 games.
To get a ratio like that at a club that has performed so poorly over the last seven months deserves some praise and if Blackburn face the drop, there'd be plenty of suitors.
Players Who Should Take Note
11 of 11There are plenty of big names who play for the bottom five clubs and should be performing better.
Roger Johnson has been quite poor since making the Midlands switch to Wolves from Birmingham and has been stripped of the captaincy by Terry Connor.
Kevin Doyle isn't scoring a lot and Wolves need him to pick up on the goal trail. Similarly, David N'Gog has been awful in front of goal but somehow keeps Ivan Klasnic on the bench.
Joey Barton and Shaun Wright-Phillips should be doing a much better job of controlling QPR's midfield. SWP has only managed three assists so far this season.
