NBA Rumors: Why Signing Derek Fisher Would Be a Terrible Idea for the Miami Heat
I sure hope the Miami Heat don't listen to the leadership of LeBron James, because he's absolutely insane right now.
Brian Windhorst of ESPN is reporting that LeBron James is okay with the concept of adding veteran point guard Derek Fisher to their already deep roster and eight-man rotation.
LeBron is on the record saying the following about Derek Fisher.
"One thing you know about Derek Fisher is that he's a winner; he's not afraid of the moment and he's won multiple championships. I don't know what our plans are but I don't see it as a bad fit it if happens. What we have we're comfortable with, but he could fit anyone's team because of his leadership and his commitment to winning."
While I understand what LeBron is saying, and it undoubtedly makes sense that LeBron is giving much due respect to a player like Fisher, just the thought of adding Derek Fisher to their already star-studded roster makes absolutely no sense.
The last thing the Miami Heat need is another player on their roster at the point guard position, as they are already deep with Mario Chalmers and Norris Cole running the show.
Sure, the thought of having another clutch shooter on the Heat's roster, with LeBron's inability to step up in the clutch as of late, is an exciting thought. But in reality, with guys like Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Mario Chalmers as options in the clutch, the Miami Heat are just fine.
The worst thing that the Heat can do right now is make legitimate changes to their rotations at the point guard position as Chalmers and Cole, with combined averages of 17.8 points, 5.7 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game, are proving that they are more than capable of running the point.
This season, the Heat are playing with an increased chemistry on the offensive side of the ball, and a large part of that success is due to the play of both Chalmers and Cole at the point.
For Fisher to get time on the court and make a difference for Miami, that means he has to be inserted into the Heat's eight-man rotation, which is the main reason why Miami needs to stay away from the veteran point guard.
There's no legitimate reason for Miami to bring in Derek Fisher, because there's no realistic place for him to fit into the Heat's eight-man rotation, and bringing him in would just throw a wrench right into a system that is firing on all cylinders.
The only player the Heat need to go after on the waiver wire is Ronny Turiaf, and the reasons for that addition can easily be found right here.
I hate to disagree with LeBron here, but in all reality, adding Derek Fisher to the Heat's roster is not an intelligent move to make. It's the kind of high risk/low reward move that the Heat need to stay away from at all costs.
