Arsenal FC: 5 Reasons Why Robin Van Persie Should Leave
Robin van Persie is the best player in the Premier League let alone Arsenal's best player.
To the Gunners, he is God and it would be a devastating blow to the club if he left.
With the financial fair play rules and Arsenal's over-reliance on him, it's unlikely that he'll leave in the summer.
That being said, here are five reasons why he should leave Arsenal.
Being Shortchanged
1 of 6Robin van Persie should be the highest paid player in the Premier League because he is the best player right now.
According to Jeremy Wilson at The Telegraph, van Persie is earning around £80,000 a week, which is peanuts compared to Yaya Touré's £220,000 a week salary.
Peter Hill-Wood, the Arsenal chairman, has stated that van Persie isn't motivated by money.
That may be the case but it's also a principle thing because the Dutchman would be well within his rights to hold out for £200,000+ a week.
Arsenal's economic pragmatism, which will ensure financial fair play isn't something they need to worry about, will be a major barrier in contractual negotiations with van Persie.
No Chance of Winning the UEFA Champions League
2 of 6Arsenal may win a Carling Cup or even an FA Cup in the future, but it's still not good enough for Robin van Persie.
If he has any ambition in him, he would leave the club because with the squad Arsenal have right now, they'll never win the UEFA Champions League.
Where's the Help?
3 of 6Instead of having teammates to defer to, Robin van Persie is the only player who will consistently produce the goods.
Essentially it's social loafing by the Arsenal players because they know van Persie is going to put on his superman cape and bail them out.
Van Persie has scored 46 percent of Arsenal's Premier League goals which is the highest percentage in the league.
He has shot the ball the most and created the most shots.
How many goals would van Persie have scored this season if he was a Barcelona player?
Arsenal Need to Show More Ambition
4 of 6It remains to be seen if Lukas Podolski will come to Arsenal. If he does, it's a step in the right direction.
Arsenal need to show more ambition by buying the likes of Eden Hazard, Jan Vertonghen and Christian Fuchs.
If Arsenal do not buy quality players, why should Robin van Persie stay?
The Legacy
5 of 6Aside from a UEFA Cup and an FA Cup, Robin van Persie hasn't won anything.
He has the ability of a world class footballer but his trophy cabinet is bare.
He needs to seriously consider moving to a bigger club that will enable him to score more goals and win more trophies.
Final Comment
6 of 6If Arsène Wenger had signed Djibril Cissé, Robin van Persie probably wouldn't be an Arsenal player.
Van Persie wasn't as troubled as Mario Balotelli, but the Dutchman had serious attitude issues. So bad that Bert van Marwijk basically kicked him out of Feyenoord.
Arsenal took a risk on van Persie when many other major clubs didn't. They also stuck with him when many had suggested that he was the lite version of Marco van Basten.
Meaning van Persie wasn't durable and Arsenal should cut their losses.
Perhaps the loyalty Arsenal showed when van Persie had no leverage over the club will be the reason why he decides to stay when he has all the leverage.
