Daily Worst: Dwight Howard Disappears vs. Heat, Kobe Ice Cold vs. Jazz
Welcome back to the Daily Worst where every day we look at the previous day's worst games and plays. Other folks like to admire the best, but here we like to take the time to review the worst. As always, our standard disclaimer here is that no players or teams were hated in the production of this article.
Today we're going to look at three of the biggest stars in the league, Russell Westbrook, Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard, and "feature" them in the daily worst.
First up is Westbrook. Here's a play that says everything you need to know about the Westbrook era in Oklahoma city. Take a look at the screen cap below and guess which of the three options Westbrook chooses:
- Pass into the post to Serge Ibaka.
- Kick out to Kevin Durant for a wide open three.
- Pivot in a complete circle until he takes his own shot.
Watch the first video below to find out the answer.
Are you really surprised that Westbrook's assists are down nearly three this year?
Moving on. Let's look at Howard's "closing" performance against the Miami Heat. Howard said a few weeks ago that he wants to be the "closer." Last night in the fourth quarter he showed why he shouldn't be as he missed his only field goal attempt, hit on two of his four free-throw attempts and had one turnover in the fourth quarter. He had one assist, though! Meanwhile, he watched Dwyane Wade do this.
At the 17-second mark you can almost guess at the conversation.
Wade: See, Dwight, that's what a closer does!
Howard: Oh, yeah! I see! Now I get it!
Speaking of closers, Bryant is normally known as a closer, but he missed on a clutch shooting opportunity last night. To be fair, he missed on virtually every opportunity he had last night, so the fact that he missed on the last one shouldn't be too shocking.
It was a horrible game for Kobe all the way around. He had just 15 points on 20 attempts and was 3-of-20 from the field with seven turnovers.
That makes Kobe the winner of the daily "Bakers Award" which goes to the player who makes the most turnovers every day. He is also the winner of the "Up Chucker Award," given to the player who chucks up so many bad shots it makes us want to puke.
