WrestleMania 28: Reasons Undertaker's Streak Is Best Honor in Pro Wrestling

Jun 4, 2018

With WrestleMania 28 just over two weeks away, it’s time to start breaking down the aspects of this year’s event that will make it the greatest WWE pay-per-view of all time.

If you want to find the biggest reason the show will be the biggest in company’s history, look no further than the unbelievable 19-0 undefeated streak by the Undertaker.

While winning World Titles is amazing for any WWE superstar, for a wrestler to not only last in the business for 20 years straight, but also manage to deal with the personalities in command for that long shows just how strong-willed Undertaker is behind the curtain as well as in front of crowds.

All of the following reasons have turned a normal winning streak into the most impressive feat in all of pro wrestling history.

The Stars Undertaker Has Beaten

While I have heard several people across the WWE universe talk about how the streak is somehow downgraded because of a lack of talent, all fans need to do is look at the caliber of talent he has faced.

From Jimmy Snuka to Ric Flair and every star in between, there is no doubt that standing all of Undertaker’s opponents next to each other proves just how truly amazing this feat is.

Undertaker’s Streak

WrestleMania XVII vs. Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka (1991) 1-0

WrestleMania XVIII vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts (1992) 2-0

WrestleMania IX vs. Giant Gonzales (1993) 3-0

WrestleMania XI vs. King Kong Bundy (1995) 4-0

WrestleMania XII vs. Diesel (1996) 5-0

WrestleMania 13 vs. Sycho Sid (1997) 6-0

WrestleMania XIV vs. Kane (1998) 7-0

WrestleMania XV vs. The Big Boss Man (Hell in a Cell match) (1999) 8-0

WrestleMania X-Seven vs. HHH (2001) 9-0

WrestleMania X8 vs. Ric Flair (No DQ) (2002) 10-0

WrestleMania XIX vs. A-Train & The Big Show (Handicap Match) (2003) 11-0

WrestleMania XX vs. Kane (2004) 12-0

WrestleMania 21 vs. Randy Orton (2005) 13-0

WrestleMania 22 vs. Mark Henry (Casket Match) (2006) 14-0

WrestleMania 23 vs. Batista (2007) 15-0

WrestleMania XXIV vs. Edge (2008) 16-0

WrestleMania XXV & XXVI vs. Shawn Michaels (2009-10) 17-0 & 18-0

WrestleMania XXVII vs. Triple H (2011) 19-0

From the greatest of all-time to the greatest of that moment, Undertaker has proven that he can carry the WrestleMania brand each and every year. The talent he has faced only builds the aura around the man and the streak.

The Stage In Which the Streak Exists

There is no bigger show on the event calendar for the WWE each year than WrestleMania. It is the Super Bowl and the Daytona 500 mixed with the greatest action movies in history.

With the WWE blowing it out for each and every one of their WrestleManias, the importance of the event has become part of its allure.

Now take Undertaker’s streak and reexamine it. It would be the equivalent of a race car driver winning the Daytona 500 or the Super Bowl for 19 straight years.

While that may be taking it a bit too far, anyone who knows the business at all knows that going 20 years in the same company while remaining in favor enough to win on the biggest stage of them all is unbelievable.

Undertaker’s Aura

From the various songs he has used to the elaborate entrances, there is no bigger mystique around a wrestler in the history of the sport of pro wrestling than the Undertaker. Let’s not forget folks, Undertaker is still a gimmick.

In an age of reality and a lack of kayfabe, Undertaker is still very much the old breed of wrestlers that sold their gimmick like it was their life. The fans buy into what would otherwise be considered a cheesy gimmick because Undertaker is seriously scary.

Every time that music hits, fans from all walks of life and all different wrestling backgrounds can join together to mark out. Undertaker is one of the few stars to not only pass the tests of time, but thrive in a cut-throat business.

When he is gone for good, WrestleMania will lose just a bit of its meaning.
