Deron Williams Trade Rumors: Latest Updates on Nets PG

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

The New Jersey Nets' dream is to pair Deron Williams with Dwight Howard in time for their move to Brooklyn next year.

If the Nets can’t accomplish that, and it’s looking improbable with DH12 likely to opt into his contract for the 2012-13 season with Orlando, they may be forced to make a move to get rid of their star point guard.

Williams is a free agent in the offseason and unless GM Billy King can find a way to surround him with talent, he’s likely on the first plane out of town when he hits the open market.

The Nets are making serious moves to surround Deron Williams with talent now that Dwight Howard is no longer a viable option this summer.

According to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, New Jersey has reached an agreement with the Trail Blazers to acquire Gerald Wallace.

It’s a smart move to acquire a versatile and supremely athletic player capable of scoring, defending and doing all the little things on the basketball court.

Wallace will thrive with a great point guard like D-Will to feed off of and it’s the first step of many the Nets need to take in order to retain their superstar PG this summer.

Almost every source points to the Nets rolling the dice and keeping D-Will today and hoping they can re-sign him in the offseason.

The Star-Ledger’s Colin Stephenson said the chances of trading Deron are “not likely” and the team is going to take its chances.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports has sources saying there are several scenarios in which the team will try to bring in other elite players next season to convince Deron to pack his bags and move to Brooklyn and nowhere else.

Marc Stein over at ESPN found the Nets’ brass will not even listen to offers for the All-Star guard and is shutting down any team inquiring about his availability.

It seems like it will be a quiet day in NJ and any major moves made by the team will happen over the summer.
