Report: Sixers Acquire Sam Young from Memphis Grizzlies
According to a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers have traded a second-round draft pick to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for combo guard-forward Sam Young.
Expected to be quiet at the trading deadline, the Sixers have picked up some size for their bench. With Jodie Meeks now coming off of the bench, the Sixers realized that they desperately needed some added height and muscle off of the bench, and that's exactly what they've added.
Young is playing in his third year in the NBA, and averages just under seven points per game for his career.
Many fans may remember that Young was actually an integral piece of the Grizzlies squad that defeated the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of last year's NBA playoffs.
A former Pitt Panther, Young excels in the open floor, and in all honesty, he's built from the Andre Iguodala mold.
Young is known as a solid defender and average shooter (he shoots 45 percent from the field for his career), but he is willing to hustle, and that's what the Sixers will need, especially if they are hoping to make a run deep into the playoffs.
Sixers fans shouldn't count on much offense from Young, but he will provide energy off of the bench and add to the league's deepest second unit. Alongside Thad Young, Lou Williams, Nikola Vucevic and Jodie Meeks, the Sixers' second unit will be even more feared than it originally was.
