Chicago Bulls Trade Rumors: Dealing for Lakers' Pau Gasol Would Be Moronic
The Chicago Bulls are attempting to acquire Pau Gasol, according to Ben Golliver of CBS Sports. Carlos Boozer is at the heart of the attempted deal.
Unfortunately for Bulls fans in hope of Gasol's arrival, the Los Angeles Lakers have no interest in Carlos Boozer. Fortunately for the Bulls fans with heads on their shoulders, Chicago is keeping their current core together.
You know, the one that's had the best record in the NBA for two years running?
Much could be made of the statistical comparison between Carlos Boozer and Pau Gasol. For instance, Gasol's season averages of 16.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks are all higher than Boozer's 15.6, 8.1 and 0.4. The only problem is, Boozer is a player in a system while Gasol is part of a three-headed monster that is directly responsible for every win or loss.
To break apart a unit that has won 79.5 percent of their games in 2012, as well as 75.6 percent in 2011, would be foolish. Furthermore, making a midseason move to bring in a star player has proven detrimental in the past; just ask Carmelo Anthony.
Furthermore, Gasol doesn't seem to thrilled with the prospect of a trade. According to Golliver, the Lakers' big man is anxiously awaiting 12:01 on Thursday afternoon:
"When that day comes along and nothing happens, I know for sure I'll have the security that I will be here at least for this season. After that? Who knows? Obviously it'll be an important day in order just to put everything behind me for another month or two or three.
"
Whether or not this deal will actually transpire is unclear. The signs point to no, but the Bucks' acquisition of Monta Ellis shows that anything is possible.
With Carlos Boozer improving his level of play in March—including 26 points against the Magic and 27 against the Jazz—it's time to will him on, not ship him out.
Besides, with the Bulls winners of 10 out of 11, the oldest saying in the book comes into play: Why fix what isn't broken?
