Liverpool FC: Steven Gerrard's Premier League Hat Tricks (with Video)
Are there enough words to describe Steven Gerrard?
Mr. Liverpool, Captain Fantastic, Stevie G.
Call him whatever you like, but there's one thing nobody can deny—he is one of the greatest English players in history.
Despite scoring a decent 89 goals in his 400 league games for Liverpool, Gerrard scored only two hat-tricks in the league with both of them coming in the last three years.
In the wake of Steven Gerrard's incredible hat-trick in the Merseyside derby in his 400th league appearance for Liverpool, let's take a look at all of his Premier League hat-tricks.
Liverpool vs Aston Villa, 2009
1 of 3The first of only two hat-tricks came in the 5-0 thrashing of Aston Villa in 2009.
Steven Gerrard calmly finished off two penalties before superbly firing home a free kick from the edge of the box.
Gerrard also grabbed an assist in the match.
I've had some problems adding the videos, but I added the separate links for each goal. Just click on the highlighted words.
Here are the first, the second and the third goals.
Liverpool vs Everton, 2012
2 of 3You all know this one. The Merseyside derby hat-trick.
The first goal came in the 34th minute of the match. Martin Kelly took a shot from the right hand side and Howard can't keep it in his hands.
Kelly took the rebound and the ball bounced off to Gerrard on the edge of the box. Gerrard lofted the ball with his left foot over the helpless goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
The second goal came in the 51st minute. Luis Suarez superbly beat his man getting a few yards away from the near post, but the ball seems to get away from him and gets into the path of onrushing Gerrard who smashed the ball into the net.
In the dying moments of the game, Gerrard led a counter attack before passing it to Suarez to his left.
Suarez then returned the ball to the captain who had no problems putting the ball into the empty net and completing his hat-trick.
Conclusion
3 of 3When Gerrard plays well, Liverpool play well. Let's hope he stays fit until the end of the season and helps the Reds return to the Champions League.
But can Liverpool really push for the top-four finish or is this going to be yet another disappointing season?
Only time will tell...
