WWE: The 5 Pairs of Wrestlers Who Have the Best Chemistry in the Company
Sometimes, two wrestlers just go together.
Whenever they step in the ring against each other, what results is something great, whether that be a show-stealing promo or a jaw-dropping match.
We've seen countless pairs of wrestlers throughout WWE history that have done just this, that have managed to wow us fans and make us completely forget that what we're watching is essentially a scripted sport.
The likes of Ricky Steamboat and Ric Flair or The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels did it for years upon years, but which WWE tandems are coming the closest to rivaling their chemistry today?
Here are the five pairs of wrestlers who currently have the best chemistry in the WWE.
5A and 5B. CM Punk/Randy Orton and Dolph Ziggler
1 of 5Sorry, but I couldn't pick just one for the No. 5 spot.
CM Punk and Dolph Ziggler spent the very end of 2011 and beginning of 2012 facing off on a number of occasions, and it all started with their bout on Monday Night Raw on Nov. 21. A 4-star encounter in my view, this was arguably the best TV match of the year in 2011, but they managed to follow it up with a few more fantastic matches.
There was the great Ziggler/Punk bout that took place during Punk's gauntlet match on the final Raw of 2011 and, of course, these two had another awesome showing when they faced off at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in January.
There aren't many more enjoyable tandems to watch in the ring, although the battles we've seen between Ziggler and Randy Orton are right there with them.
Even though Orton and Ziggler have yet to have an extended feud (I can't wait to see that, by the way), they've faced off a number of times on Raw and Smackdown over the last several months.
What we got was what you might expect out of two of the best in-ring competitors in the WWE: great matches, such as this one from Smackdown back in October 2011.
Despite not being in any type of feud, Ziggler and Orton managed to put on some wildly entertaining matches, and once these two get into a legitimate rivalry, I can only imagine how great their series of matches could be.
4. The Undertaker and Triple H
2 of 5The Undertaker and Triple H have faced off twice on the grand stage of WrestleMania, and both times they really delivered.
Though their WrestleMania X-Seven match was great, it doesn't get as much love as it should, largely because it took place on a stacked pay-per-view that many fans call the best ever. However, Undertaker and Triple H made sure in 2011 that their names would forever be synonymous with WrestleMania.
They battled in, hands down, the best match on the WrestleMania 28 card, a bout was certainly in contention for "Match of the Year." Taker and Triple H told a wonderful story in their encounter, one that can only be told by the true legends of the business.
I would have Triple H and Undertaker higher on this list, but it's hard to rank them above some other duos who have gotten in the ring together more often recently. They may have had great chemistry in those two matches, but they were 10 years apart, while others have done it on a more consistent basis.
Still, I would never try to take anything away from The Game and The Phenom. Their match at WrestleMania 28 is one of my favorite of all time.
Not bad for two guys in their 40s.
3. John Cena and CM Punk
3 of 5If there's one thing wrestling fans love to do, it's hate on John Cena. But in 2011, he proved that he truly deserves to be mentioned among the greats of the business.
Although the summer of 2011 became "The Summer of Punk," it never would have been that had he not faced Cena in two of the very best matches of the year on two very big stages.
The Cena/Punk match at Money in the Bank was the Wrestling Observer Newsletter's "Match of the Year" (mine too) and a 5-star encounter in the eyes of many. That bout was almost impossible to follow up, but Cena and Punk managed to put on a match that was almost as good at the next pay-per-view, SummerSlam.
The wrestling between these two was something we hadn't seen during a WWE Championship feud for quite some time, and all the elements (Punk's contract situation, his hometown Chicago crowd at Money in the Bank, etc.) combined to make the atmosphere truly electric for both matches.
I would probably have these two at No. 1 overall, but I feel like their two matches would not have been as entertaining or as fantastic had the feud between them not been so, well, awesome.
Did we like the matches that much, or the feud that came along with it? I loved both, and I'll certainly applaud both Punk and Cena for tearing the house down during the summer, when interest in the WWE is almost always down.
2. CM Punk and Daniel Bryan
4 of 5Daniel Bryan is considered by many to be the best wrestler in the world, and CM Punk actually calls himself that.
And when you see them in the ring together, you'll realize why.
Punk and Bryan started off here, made it to the WWE, became the company's two World champions at the same time and have since faced off in a number of "Champion vs. Champion" matches on both Raw and Smackdown.
In every match, they truly personified what great wrestling is all about. There were never any titles on the line or even a legitimate feud going on between the two, but every bout between them was an instant technical classic.
As two guys who have so much pre-WWE history with one another, Punk and Bryan showed that all it takes is one match to recreate a spark, to recreate chemistry.
After seeing what Punk and Bryan can do on TV with virtually no build, I can only imagine how phenomenal a series of pay-per-view matches between arguably the two best wrestlers on the planet would be.
1. Randy Orton and Christian
5 of 5There is no lengthy series of matches in recent WWE history that was better than what we got out of Randy Orton and Christian in 2011.
Whereas some feuds only result in a couple of great matches, Orton vs. Christian resulted in at least five.
It all started back on May 6 of that year, when Christian was forced to defend his World Heavyweight Championship just five days after winning it. Orton would defeat him for the title, and this would lead to a series of both pay-per-view and TV matches that lasted all the way through SummerSlam.
People tend to disagree on which was the best match of their series, but their bouts at Over the Limit, Capitol Punishment, Money in the Bank and SummerSlam (as well as their TV matches) were all simply amazing.
There was never an off night for either Christian or Orton. They were on every single time they stepped in the ring together, delivering the best matches of their careers and arguably the most entertaining feud of 2011.
