WrestleMania 28: Rock vs. Cena Shouldn't Touch Until Then
The longer the suspense, better the climax.
Too many want The Rock and John Cena to begin fighting and get physical three weeks prior the match that has been built for a year. Too many people I wouldn't want booking my wrestling promotion.
There are few alive, active and available wrestlers who could be placed in a big money pro-wrestling fight, and sell it while saving the physicality for the pay-per-view. The key word is “pay.”

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
This list would include making some the dream matches that are often discussed involving Stone Cold Steve Austin, CM Punk, Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker and even the non-iconic but great Sting. Read my column from yesterday to get caught up on those Sting fans I seemed to have offended.
There is such a short list of those who can build to being in the main event of WrestleMania and do it on the microphone, with props, parody and anything else other than a punch. The Rock and John Cena are two in a short list so WWE is doing right by not spoiling what they hope a million people will pay to see.
I agree on last night's RAW the ending was flat.
Prior to RAW, I felt that something needed to bring Cena and The Rock to the point of being tired of talking. Something needed to be said causing microphones to be dropped and fists clenched, which forces Vince McMahon to break it up in order to save his golden goose main event. You can also read that piece from yesterday.
This didn't happen.
The Rock did provide what I thought would have made a logical opening for Cena to end the talking. John Cena is fighting for his legacy, the boys and the company, but getting personal by mentioning his mother should be the line. When The Rock repeats the chorus about Cena's mom, that is perfect timing for Cena to hit the ring running. The lights remain dim for The Rock, no entrance music, just Cena bolting to the ring with every WWE official on his heels.
Cena slides in the ring, tackles the Rock off of his stool and officials pounce on top of them to pull it apart.
That's all you get. The nature of this storyline has everyone guessing each week.
Was he supposed to say that? How much do they really not like each other backstage? Making the elementary mother's joke with a realistic reaction from Cena would have left some tweeting and questioning if that was suppose to happen. Every other time a run in takes place in wrestling a certain amount of time is left for the wrestlers to fight before it's time to break it up. Cena running to the ring with suits on his tail would have provided a climactic, realistic feeling to end RAW.
As for the climax in the grand scheme of things, that happens at WrestleMania 28. What good is it to see The Rock and John Cena punch each other now? Neither is gonna get that many shots in. You aren't going to have one get an upper hand on the other. You'll only start to see something that they are going to pay money for in a few weeks.
Just wait.
In most feuds today, the guys can't build just on the microphone and need to be physical. In some feuds the physicality is appropriate. This isn't one of them.
The questions on the real life relationship between the two, mixed in with the weekly promos, is doing great for the build. People want to see the WrestleMania 28 match not only for who goes over but how the match looks. Both men are professional, but you have to assume it could be faster and more physical than it may otherwise be with any other opponent or match.
The fact that people are writing articles and tweeting about the need for the two start wrestling is good for WWE. Let the suspense get to the point of anticipation and frustration. The Rock versus Cena is a rare gift that few wrestlers can provide for a wrestling booker these days.
Make the world wait and PAY for April 1, 2012, or April 21, 2012 if The Undertaker has his way.
