T.J. Ford Retires: San Antonio Spurs Guard Calls It Quits After 8 Seasons
It's a sad, sad day in the NBA.
28-year-old point guard T.J. Ford, winner of the 2003 Naismith and John Wooden Player of the Year awards, is calling it quits.
After suffering yet another neck injury, the legendary Longhorn has decided to hang up the sneakers. As one could expect, this was not an easy decision.
Ford released a statement:
""While this was a tough decision to make, it is what is best for me and my family at this time," Ford said. "Regardless of what the future holds, I will carry the experiences, the friendships and the memories with me forever."
"
His current head coach with the San Antonio Spurs, Greg Popovich, offered nothing but support.
"I congratulate him on all that he has achieved as a player and fully support the difficult decision he was forced to make," Pop said.
While young fans may know Ford from his Bulls' half-court buzzer-beater in last year's NBA playoffs, many remember his dominance as a Texas Longhorn and promise as an NBA player. Unfortunately, all who remember must take a route of nostalgia upon Ford's departure.
Thank you, T.J. Ford, for everything that you have given the game of basketball. I can't help but wonder...
What if T.J. Ford had never been injured?
