Weekend Rundown: Recapping This Weekend in MMA

With the UFC out of action for the weekend, there was no shortage of MMA action. Bellator, Tachi Palace Fights and the new Super Fight League all put on events, keeping the hardcore MMA fan pleased.

With the UFC out until early April, Bellator and other promotions will continue to stay active to appease MMA fans' appetites for watching fights.

Here is a recap of a couple of the major cards that happened this weekend.

Bellator LX

Bellator LX (60) saw a new champion crowned on Friday, as well as the opening of the Season 6 featherweight tournament.

Pat Curran brutally knocked out Joe Warren in the third round to earn the Bellator Featherweight Championship belt. Warren had a difficult time getting Curran to the mat, as Curran showed off great takedown defense and lethal striking. He ended the bout with vicious knees and precise punches.

Additionally, Daniel Straus, Marlon Sandro, Mike Corey and Alexandre Bezerra all advanced in the featherweight tournament. Bezerra and Sandro earned submission stoppages, while Corey and Straus earned hard fought decisions.

Pat Curran defeated Joe Warren via knockout (knees and punches) at 1:25 of round 3.

Daniel Straus defeated Jeremy Spoon via unanimous decision at 5:00 of round 3.

Mike Corey defeated Ronnie Mann via unanimous decision at 5:00 of round 3.

Marlon Sandro defeated Roberto Vargas via submission (rear naked choke) at 3:35 of round 1.

Alexandre Bezerra defeated Kenny Foster via submission (rear naked choke) at 4:57 of round 2.

Josh Shockley defeated Shamar Bailey via unanimous decision at 5:00 of round 3.

Genair da Silva defeated Bobby Reardanz via TKO (leg kicks and punches) at :51 of round 3.

Sean McCorkle defeated Richard White via submission (neck crank) at 1:02 of round 1.

Travis Wiuff defeated Anthony Gomez via unanimous decision at 5:00 of round 3.

Jake Nauracy defeated Cory Galloway via submission (rear naked choke) at 4:22 of round 2.

Tachi Palace Fights 12: The Second Coming

An anticipated bout between Georgi Karakhanyan and Micah Miller was canceled the before the card began, which was a big blow for the Tachi Palace 12 fight card.

In the main event of the evening, bantamweights Casey Olson and Cody Gibson squared off in a battle of Californians. Olson walked away with a unanimous decision in a tough-fought contest.

Casey Olson defeated Cody Gibson via unanimous decision at 5:00 of round 3.

Rob Emerson defeated Savant Young via submission (rear naked choke) at 4:29 of round 3.

Francisco Rivera defeated Antonio Duarte via knockout (punches) at 1:15 of round 1.

Bubba Jenkins defeated Chris Gomez via submission (rear naked choke) at 2:07 of round 1.

Dave Huckaba defeated Liron Wilson via TKO (punches) at 1:05 of round 2.

Super Fight League 1

Super Fight League held its first event ever today in India, hosting notable veterans and local Asian talent on the card.

Here are the notable results from the card:

James Thompson defeated Bob Sapp via submission (leg injury) at 1:52 of round 1.

Jimmy Ambriz defeated Satish Jamia via TKO (punches) at :14 of round 1.

Xavier Foupa-Pokam defeated Joey Guel via TKO (doctor stoppage) at 5:00 of round 1.

There were more fights on the card, but only these three showcased notable MMA veterans.

Mirko Cro Cop Victorious

Mirko Cro Cop was victorious last night in his farewell kickboxing match with opponent Ray Sefo. He defeated Sefo by unanimous decision in his home country of Croatia.

Cro Cop ends his career with a 27-10-2 (1NC) record as a mixed martial artist and a 17-7-1 kickboxing record. He was one of the most feared knockout artists in MMA history.

Cro Cop is most notable for winning the PRIDE Open Weight Grand Prix in 2006. He holds notable MMA victories over Pat Barry, Josh Barnett (3X), Wanderlei Silva, Mark Coleman, Kevin Randleman, Igor Vovchanchyn and Kazushi Sakuraba.

He is a legend of the sport and undoubtedly a hypothetical Hall of Famer.
