NFL Rumors: New York Giants Will Release Brandon Jacobs Friday
The New York Giants are preparing to release running back Brandon Jacobs today, according to Mike Garafolo of The Star-Ledger.
Jacobs won two Super Bowls with the G-Men during his seven seasons in New York. He was a fourth-round draft pick out of Southern Illinois University who started to significantly contribute in 2007 after Tiki Barber retired.
The 6’4”, 265-pound bruiser broke out for 1,009 yards and four TDs on 202 carries and started every game that he was healthy on to way to his first championship.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
He had an even better year in 2008, busting out 219 carries for 1,089 yards and a ridiculous 15 touchdowns.
However, Jacobs started declining shortly after that and has yet to reach the 1,000-yard mark since that 2008-09 season. Ahmad Bradshaw had replaced him as the starting back, and Jacobs' yards per carry average fell to 3.8 in 2011, although he was still effective near the goal line and punched in seven TDs this season.
According to Rotoworld, Jacobs was due $4.9 million for the upcoming season, and it would have been preposterous for the Giants to pay him that in comparison to his on-field production.
This is largely the reason why the Giants are being forced to part ways with him, despite him being a significant contributor during the postseason and a solid backup RB.
The power back will be turning 30 years old this summer, as well, and is clearly on the downside of his career.
Another team will likely take a chance on Jacobs, but he’ll have to take a huge pay cut and prepare to be a backup once again.
Stay tuned to B/R throughout the day to find the latest news, updates and analysis on the Giants' release of Brandon Jacobs.
