NBA Rumors: Chicago Bulls Shouldn't Waste Time with Risky Stephen Jackson

Andrew KulhaMar 9, 2012

The Chicago Bulls need to bring in some more talent onto their roster if they want to be serious contenders for the 2012 NBA title, but trading for a guy like Milwaukee Bucks' shooting guard Stephen Jackson would not be the right move.

In fact, it would be counterproductive for the Bulls.

The problem is, bringing in an extra shooting guard who happens to be a veteran sounds pretty good right about now, doesn't it?

Richard Hamilton has been plagued by injuries this season, which as a rhythm guy makes him a pretty inconsistent option, and he's not even sure when he'll be able to return from his recent shoulder injury.

This is the Bulls starting shooting guard we're talking about mind you. A shoulder injury is nothing to take lightly, especially with a shooter like Hamilton.

Right now isn't even the problem though. What should worry Bulls fans is later on in the season or heaven forbid during the playoffs.

The NBA is all about attrition, especially during this lockout-shortened year. If the Bulls want to be legitimate title contenders, they have to be healthy. They also must have a contingency plan if and when things go wrong.

What happens if Hamilton goes out during the playoffs?

That's what makes Jackson such a an intriguing option, and according to quotes from Aggrey Sam of csnchicago.com, he is interested in the Bulls:

"

“Who wouldn’t want to play with Derrick Rose? Right up the street; it would be a great fit for me. I don’t think anybody in the league would say they wouldn’t want to do that, but me, at the end of the day, I just want to play. I’ve been a competitor my whole career, I’ve won everywhere I’ve went, so at this point, I just want to get back on the court and do what I do best, wherever that is,” Jackson told CSNChicago.com Wednesday morning. “I’m just here, working out every day, just waiting for my opportunity, so I can be ready, but that’s always my goal, to win a championship and I know being on a team like that, it wouldn’t be that hard."

"

The need may be there, but the Bulls need to stay away from Jackson at all costs.

He's been a disruptive force for as long as I can remember, and even though he's talented, the bad far outweighs the good—especially for a team just one or two pieces away from being a title contender.

If that were the only issue it would probably still be enough to keep the Bulls away from Jackson, but then add in the fact that he's been dealing with hamstring problems and has a self-proclaimed "irreparable" relationship with Bucks' head coach Scott Skiles, and the case may be closed on Jackson.

Well, at the very least it should be closed.
