2012 NFL Free Agent Predictions: Projecting Where Top WRs Will Land

Brian MaziqueJun 7, 2018

The free-agent wide receiver class isn't star-studded, but there are certainly some players that can help fill a need for teams looking to add weapons.

The Bears and Vikings desperately need help at receiver, so I fully expect them to be actively in pursuit of the best available wideouts.

Here is a look at the top four free-agent receivers and the teams that I predict they will sign with:

Vincent Jackson - Chicago Bears

With a huge need for a receiver with size, Jackson and his 6'5" frame certainly fit the bill. Three consecutive 1000-yard receiving seasons speak to his production, and Jay Cutler would be happy to have the bigger target.

Jackson immediately becomes the Bears' best receiver and go-to option. Don't be surprised if Jackson shatters every one of the Bears' modest single-season receiving records.

Reggie Wayne - Miami Dolphins

Since I predict Peyton Manning will sign in Miami, that pretty much locks up Wayne as well. Wayne said this of the prospects of reuniting with Manning in Miami to Omar Kelly of the Sun Sentinel:

"

"I can see it, and I’m definitely not opposed to it,” Wayne said about teaming up with Manning in Miami. “He’s a great worker. I consider myself a great worker, and when you put great workers together good things happen. Me being in his trail to Miami, I would definitely love it! I’m totally available. My phone is working…I’m ready for anything that comes! I definitely see that in the mix."

"

Wayne is still productive at the age of 33. In a bad situation in 2011, he still managed 75 receptions for 950 yards. He, Manning and Brandon Marshall would be a formidable aerial attack.

Randy Moss - New Orleans Saints

Moss' workout went great, per Jay Glazer, who tweeted:

"

hearing from multiple sources re Randy Moss workout today he lit it up. Was told he ran about 45 routes and "looked like the old Randy."

"

From what I gather all parties were pretty floored by his workout. Probably didn't expect him to perform the way he did

That said, with the Saints staring at free agency for two of their wide receivers (Marques Colston and Robert Meachem), signing Moss makes sense.

He is 35, but he seems to have kept himself in great physical condition while away from the game. He hasn't played since 2010, but the workout proved he can still compete on a high level.

Marques Colston - New Orleans Saints

The Randy Moss workout went well, but does their interest in Moss mean that Colston won't return?

No, I think it will mean that Robert Meachem won't return. I think the Saints have to choose between one of their receivers: Meachem is younger, but Colston is more accomplished.

I say they go with Colston, even if they sign Moss. Together they create matchup problems with their size (both receivers are 6'4").

It adds an element to the Saints offense they have never had on both sides of the field. If Moss is truly the old Moss, the attention he commands makes everyone on the field better.
