Chicago Bulls Talk: Top Free Agents Chicago Must Pursue
Many people have the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat matching up in the Eastern Conference finals. If that's the case, what can Chicago do to increase their chances of a different outcome this time around?
The Heat are a better team than they were last year, of that there's no doubt. They play some of the best defense in the league and possess arguably the top two players in the entire NBA.
The Bulls went out last summer and added Rip Hamilton, hoping for some more scoring production from their backcourt. However, like I have said from the beginning, this move does not help Chicago as much as people think it did.
Hamilton plays no defense and is not really a shooting guard with the ability to create his own shot. He relies on running off many screens to obtain shots—screens he often times does not get in Chicago.
That being said, what can the Bulls do? If they met up in the playoffs today, the injury-ridden Hamilton would match up with arguably the best 2-guard in the league today in Dwyane Wade.
According to a report from ESPN's Marc Stein on February 10, the Bulls are content with their roster and plan to make no moves.
That's a mistake.
The Bulls still rely too much on Rose, and are not as good on defense as other contenders throughout the league.
Chicago must add another scorer if they want to be successful down the stretch. It would be a good idea for them to sign a player like Gilbert Arenas or James Posey—two players who can get it done on both ends of the floor.
Wilson Chandler has come out and said that if he's not playing in Denver, he's not playing in the NBA. That's too bad, because he would be the perfect fit for the Bulls. If the team could work out any kind of deal, they might just have their last piece on a team that is already a contender.
There's a difference between confidence and realism. The Bulls have got to make a move if they want to take down the Heat—period.
