Drew Brees: Saints' Star QB Reportedly Furious with Franchise Tag
The New Orleans Saints have placed the franchise tag on their record-setting QB, Drew Brees.
Like almost every NFL player, Brees is looking for a long-term deal, and—according to a report on WIST-AM in New Orleans—Brees is not happy with the tag.
CBS Sports passed on what the radio station had to say:

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
"Drew Brees is 'livid' about being franchise tagged and not receiving a long-term contract, according to WIST-AM in New Orleans. The radio station cites sources in the Brees camp that he will not sign the franchise tag deal. Brees and the Saints have until July 15 to hammer out a long-term deal. If a deal isn't struck, Brees must sign the franchise tag deal or hold out.
"
This certainly is not a new situation in the NFL. Teams often employ this strategy with star players to extend their window to exclusively negotiate with a player.
The Saints chose to use this tag to keep Brees from hitting the free-agent market. Now, they don't have to worry about watching their franchise QB walk away.
And it is not surprising that they would protect themselves from that.
Brees has been amazing for the Saints. He's led them to a Super Bowl championship and has made them a consistent offensive powerhouse.
In two of his last three seasons, he has posted a QB rating over 109. Last season, he threw for a regular-season record 5,476 passing yards.
