Minnesota Twins Drop Game 2 of the Mayors Cup at Hammond Stadium
The Minnesota Twins lost 10-2 in the second game of a six-game series against the Boston Red Sox.
Jason Marquis, who was signed as a free agent in the offseason, started the game game for the Twins and worked 1.2 innings. He faced 11 batters, gave up three hits, walked three and struck out two. In his first inning of work he looked very solid, mixing in all his pitches and striking out two.
Then the second started and the trouble began. He gave up a lead-off double to Darnell McDonald, who was playing designated hitter, followed by two singles and a walk. With the bases loaded he got Jason Repko to hit one on the ground for a potential double play, but Repko beat out the throw to first. Marquis then walked shortstop Jose Iglesias before getting Ryan Sweeney to ground out to first basemen Justin Morneau.
