Salido vs. Lopez: Start Time, Live Streaming and Schedule

Adam WellsJun 5, 2018

Two of the best young fighters in boxing will collide in an epic rematch this weekend, when Juan Manuel Lopez takes on Orlando Salido for the WBO featherweight championship.

Lopez is looking for revenge after a TKO loss in an April 2011 bout against Salido. It was the first and only loss of his career to this point. He dominated Mike Oliver last October to earn this rematch.

Salido has seen his career take off since defeating Lopez. He has won three consecutive fights, all via TKO. His victory over Lopez was the biggest of his career, and he has ridden that wave of momentum a long way.

Lopez's Keys to Victory

- Use power to overwhelm Salido early.

The biggest advantage that Lopez has in this bout is his power. His career has been defined by beating opponents into oblivion—28 knockouts in 31 victories.

Lopez can't match Salido's stamina, so he has to try ending the fight as early as possible. It has worked well for him throughout his career, but Salido was able to withstand an onslaught before Lopez dropped him.

Salido's Keys to Victory

- Force Lopez to use all his energy early, wear him down in the later rounds.

Salido has all the confidence in the world coming into this fight. He was able to score a TKO victory in their first fight, and has shown no signs of slowing down since that victory.

His all-around game is not as crisp as Lopez's, but he does excel in being able to wear down an opponent before ending things. He has the stamina to take this to a decision, or he can overwhelm him late in the fight like he did before.

What They Are Saying

Lopez and Salido are not getting into a lot of trash talk leading up to the fight, instead choosing to show more respect for each other than you normally see.

Lopez is not trying to make any excuses for his loss in their first fight, taking the high road and vowing revenge.

From the Miami Herald:

"

“I want to thank Salido for coming back to Puerto Rico and giving me this opportunity. I knew Salido was a tough fighter, and he came prepared and beat me, and I offered no excuses.

"
"“You have to be smart and use your boxing skills—that is the only way to beat Salido. I learned that in our first fight.”"

Prediction

Salido's first win was a big upset. Lopez is younger and stronger, so he will get his win back.
