WWE Opinion: Ole Anderson Should Be Included in the Horsemen's HOF Induction

David LevinJun 7, 2018

As a young teen hooked on the important things in life like girls, football and wrestling, I remember the formation of this "bad ass clique" consisting of Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Ole Anderson and their manager named J.J. Dillon.

With no name and a positive vibe from the crowds within Jim Crockett Promotions of the old NWA, it was Arn Anderson who spoke up about the "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" and a brand, and legacy was born.

"The only time this much havoc had been wreaked by this few a number of people, you need to go all the way back to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse," he said at an impromptu taping at the Omni in Atlanta.

All of the sudden, it was cool to be bad in professional wrestling. Wooooooo!

But what was so special about those four wrestlers was the bond between them in and out of the ring and for that reason, while he was replaced about a year later by Lex Luger and then Barry Windham, Ole Anderson should be part of the Hall of Fame inductions ceremony in Miami the night before WrestleMania 28.

The reason for the "snub" is simple. The fact it cannot be overseen, disturbing.

“Vince McMahon hates my guts, and I don’t like him. So that’s all there is to it,” said Anderson in an interview with the Charlotte Observer.

Health problems from multiple sclerosis have further complicated Anderson's life, and the 69-year-old said he could not participate even if he wanted to because of the disease. But as he further discussed the induction into the elite company of wrestlers, it seemed as though it did not matter if Anderson was honored for such a distinguished time in his career.

Anderson in his prime was a rugged brawler who wore down opponents with a style of wrestling that can only be described as "punishing" and "deliberate." He and his tag team partner Gene Anderson and later Arn Anderson, would focus on a opponent's arm or leg or just pummel them until they submitted.

While there is an argument that Windham, who had a brush with death after a heart attack last year, was the perfect replacement for the rugged Anderson (whose real name is Alan Rogowski), the fact the "originals" are not all part of the induction ceremony is upsetting, especially to this writer and fan.

Vince McMahon holds all the cards in terms of this business and hatred and anger runs deep for years on end. While Anderson has wrestled the best of all time like Lou Thesz and Verne Gagne and is instrumental in the development of the Road Warriors as the new "bad ass" heel tag team in Georgia Championship Wrestling.

He also was a booker and part of the planning of events with GCW and JCP. His omission is just another blunder along the way in the history of this business.

And while he could not be in attendance, in this case, being asked, honored and invited should have been the first thing done to show respect for the great stable and "clique" of all time.
