Liverpool vs. Arsenal: 5 Reasons Kenny Dalglish May Lose His Job over the Result
Andre Villas-Boas' recent sacking from the Chelsea manager's position is nothing new in the Premier League.
In fact, AVB isn't even in the first, second or third manager to be given his marching orders this season.
Neil Warnock, Steve Bruce and Mick McCarthy have all been given the push and there are plenty of others under mounting pressure to achieve better results.
Kenny Dalglish may now be one of them.
Here are five reasons Dalglish may lose his job over the loss to Arsenal.
Money Spent
1 of 6After a temporary trial period as manager, John Henry decided that Kenny Dalglish was the man for the Liverpool manager's job and offered him the position full time.
Dalglish brought in Stewart Downing, Jose Enrique, Jordan Henderson, Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez, Craig Bellamy, Sebastian Coates, Alexander Doni and Charlie Adam for over £100 million.
Despite winning the Carling Cup final at Wembley, the players haven't repaid Dalglish's faith with performances in the league.
Will NESV allow Dalglish another season of frivolous spending?
League Position
2 of 6Liverpool are currently clinging onto seventh place in the league, five points behind sixth-place Newcastle and only three points ahead of eighth-place Fulham.
At the moment—Carling Cup win aside—doubts would have been cast as to whether Liverpool could even achieve a Europa League finish on their current form.
That constitutes an epic failure when combined with the money spent by the club.
Stubbornness
3 of 6Saturday's league fixture against Arsenal was perhaps the most stubborn piece of management from Kenny Dalglish during his time in charge this season.
Liverpool were playing well in the first half and creating chances but the result wasn't going their way.
Dalglish's decision not to make any changes until the 88th minute was a poor management choice by the Kop idol and it cost the club dearly.
It pretty much signalled the end to their Champions League hopes this season.
Fan Patience
4 of 6Kopites are notoriously faithful to their managers unless your name is Roy Hodgson.
Just being Kenny Dalglish perhaps ensures that the Liverpool manager will get more leniency in the hot seat, but there will always come a time when the fans begin to voice discontent.
If Liverpool maintain their league position and finish in seventh place come the end of the season, what will that fan reaction be?
Future Decline
5 of 6If all of the previous is taken into account, attracting future players of top quality will become highly difficult for the club.
The Champions League is a big selling point to the modern day footballer and it also provides the club with high revenue income.
Without the income or player interest, Liverpool may be forgotten as a European strength and the knock on effect could be critical to the club's development.
Afterthoughts
6 of 6Liverpool's Carling Cup win this season was a fantastic achievement, but will it blind the supporters to the more concerning issue of league form?
Anfield hasn't been a happy place this season and the results have been poor.
I would be quite willing to give Kenny Dalglish one more summer to get the signings right for the club, but a seventh- or eighth-place finish this season might mean that opportunity won't come around.
Only time will tell.
