Jamie Ward Blows His Own Trumpet After 50 Articles On Bleacher Report

Jamie WardJan 9, 2009

Bleacher Report has taken over my life, much to the disappointment of my girlfriend as she hates the amount of time I spend on here. I got her to sign up and start editing other people's articles in the hope she would get the bug as well, but that novelty wore off quickly for her.

I can feel the tension in the air as I am writing this one right now.

I always check my profile before I head out the door to work and it is one of the first things I do when I get home again.

I have spent many an evening glancing across headline after headline until one catches my eye and dwindled many a day away trying to think of an idea that might take off.

I do have a life, honest.

It is just, when I get in to something, I REALLY get in to it. Football is such a big part of my life and has dominated my thoughts for over 20 years now. And the last few years in particular, I have developed a passion for discussing it so, naturally, Bleacher is paradise for me.

I had a plan that it would aid my writing so that I could evolve it to a good enough standard in a couple of years. I am not aching to be a sport journalist, I am actually training to be a mental health nurse which is what I really want to do.

However, I am definitely enjoying the idea of writing part-time, possibly for a proper media outlet. But I am not naive enough to believe that it will be happening yet, that is a long way off.

However, I am more than happy enough to just be on that road.

Bleacher Report is an amazing thing, its positives outweigh the negatives by an incredibly large amount. I really hope to be a member for as long as I possibly can and build up a name for myself that is synonymous with quality of writing and a respectful personality.

I would like to thank everyone who has been a part of my time up until now on B/R, I wont name you all, but I am certain you all know who you are.

A big thank you must also go to the many many talented writers on here who have inspired me to do better and shown me things that have no doubt improved my writing.

I really must rap this up as its turning in to a Gwyneth Paltrow receiving her Oscar moment and it is getting a little out of hand now.

The main aim of this article was simply to highlight some of, what I consider to be my best work so far, as well as some shameless self promotion of articles that I think slipped people by, much to my disappointment.

The Articles

My first article talks about other aspects that contribute to a team not fulfilling its potential on the pitch and that the blame should not just lay at the door of the manager.

My second article discusses the hidden influence of the media and how it affects our point of view without us possibly knowing it.

My third article on Bleacher Report goes in to detail about the Football Associations "Get On With the Game" scheme and why it will not work. It also shows how the FA already had the power to eradicate the problems within the game.

The first of "The Forgotten Pioneers of Football" articles looks at Herbert Chapman and his involvement in many aspects of modern football, despite his reign being some 90 years ago.

One article that slipped many by was the one about the treatment of Manchester United supporters at the hands of their own club and its unfair ticket system.

This article talks about Rafa Benitez and his rebuilding programme of Liverpool football club. It highlights why it has been premature to judge the Spaniard on the first few seasons in charge.

This edition of "The Liverpool Community Archive" put forward an article by community writer, David Gore, and his brilliant piece on the history of Liverpool the city.

The second edition of "The Liverpool Community Archive" highlights the work of Martin Hunt and his article about why pundits and supporters are in the wrong to attack Rafa Benitez and the apparent problem with rotation.

Another series I thought would be a good idea was "The Liverpool Community Spotlight". It talks to members of the community and asks questions about their life as a football supporter and their time on Bleacher Report. The first edition spoke to David Gore and the second edition spoke to Liverpool community leader, Barney Corkhill.

Many of my articles have been Liverpool related and this one discusses the Liverpool supporters and their possible hindrance of the team when they chose to boo the players, despite going top of the league.

When writing articles, I try to introduce some history and back-story to highlight breaking news issues. This article looked at how past hooliganistic behavior has come back to haunt the English national supporters and their time spent in other countries.

Some people might not know much about the Liverpudlian, Michael Shields and his current attempted murder charge given by the Belgium government. It is considered by many to be a ridiculous series of events and this article looks at how the English home secretary, Jack Straw, could grant him a pardon.

This is a brief article about how Liverpool's famous Spion Kop stand found its voice after witnessing an event from Brazilian supporters during the World Cup.

So there you have it, some shameless self-promotion from myself. Hopefully you will have found at least one article you may have missed the first time round.

Thanks for reading and stay classy San Diego.
