England vs. Holland: Rating the England Players at Wembley
England battled back, but the Dutch laughed last.
Arjen Robben scored in the second minute of second-half stoppage time to give the Netherlands a 3-2 victory over England at Wembley on Wednesday. Robben's winner came just moments after Ashley Young's goal had completed England's comeback from a 2-0 deficit and spoiled the debuts of England caretaker manager Stuart Pearce and captain Scott Parker.
Robben opened the scoring in the 57th minute with an excellent solo run and finish—aided by Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's clear-out run ahead of him. Huntelaar then scored Holland's second a minute later with a powerful header.

Huntelaar and England's Chris Smalling—who had been marking the Dutch striker—were both injured after knocking heads on the play. Both left the game following the incident.
Gary Cahill started England's comeback with a goal in the 85th minute while playing as a makeshift center-forward. Replays showed Cahill was offside.
Read on for England player ratings in the 3-2 loss.
Goalkeeper
Joe Hart: 6.0
It's hard to fault Hart for much. He had little chance to stop any of Holland's three goals.
Defenders
Micah Richards: 6.5
Richards was a danger-man for England down the right flank in the first half and constantly worked himself into good positions when going forward. What did Fabio Capello have against him, again?
Gary Cahill: 7.0
England's hot new goal-scorer, eh? In all seriousness, Cahill played pretty well defensively before scoring his late goal, although both central defenders should probably take some blame for Robben's opening goal.
Chris Smalling: 6.0
It feels callous to write, considering what happened afterwards, but Smalling was at fault for Holland's second goal. The ever-dangerous Klaas-Jan Huntelaar beat Smalling to the high cross and scored expertly. But, besides that incident and Robben's opening goal, Smalling played pretty well. It's a shame his outing ended with such a scary injury.
Leighton Baines: 6.0
Baines got forward some in the first half down the left wing and defended decently. Ashley Cole is probably still a better option, though.
Midfielders
Scott Parker: 6.5
Parker made a few key blocks in the first half and showed the kind of commitment a captain should. He faded—and so did England—in the second half before the late fightback.
Gareth Barry: 5.0
Barry was substituted at halftime after not having much impact on the game. Is it time to try another option here?
Adam Johnson: 5.5
Johnson had a good chance when he got free in the penalty box in the first half, but other than that, he, too, was mostly quiet.
Ashley Young: 6.5
Young's crosses were generally good, but his giveaway early in the second half led to a chance for Huntelaar. In the latter stages, he made a clever horizontal run behind the Dutch defense to set himself up for his well-taken goal.
Steven Gerrard: 5.0
Gerrard didn't have much time on the pitch, and his short outing didn't produce any excitement. His connection with Welbeck lacked understanding.
Forward
Danny Welbeck: 6.0
Welbeck's work rate and movement were good. The service he received was next to nonexistent.
Substitutes
Daniel Sturridge: 7.0
Sturridge replaced Gerrard in the first half and made a nuisance of himself for the rest of the match. His first contribution was an excellent cross that nearly led to an England chance, and he was a constant threat around the Dutch box. He should have tracked Robben better on Holland's first goal, though.
James Milner: 5.0
Milner came on at halftime for Gareth Barry. He wasn't any better.
Phil Jones: 6.0
Jones came in at right-back after the injury to Smalling and shook things up a bit. His through ball set up Young for England's equalizer in stoppage time.
Stewart Downing: 5.5
Downing replaced Johnson in the 64th minute, found a little space on the left flank and hit a volley from inside the box that went just wide of the far post. It wasn't a great performance, but he was better than most in England's midfield.
Fraizer Campbell: No Rating
It was nice to see Campbell making his international debut. He came on late, though, and didn't make an impact. Let's see if he gets more chances.
Theo Walcott: No Rating
Walcott came on eight minutes after Campbell, but still managed to get involved in England's equalizer. Maybe that's a good sign from Walcott, who's been up and down lately.
