Movies That Would've Been Better Starring This MMA Fighter
Movie Theaters and MMA have a few things in common. They're expensive activities, they usually make a killing in concession sales and they also exist to entertain audiences.
The world of movies is home to some of the most colorful characters in the history of storytelling. MMA isn't short on characters either.
Without question these fighters made the right choice by getting into MMA. But, if they ever got bored or just wanted to make some more money, these are movie roles they should've signed up for.
Fedor Emelianenko- The Terminator
1 of 14Like The Terminator, Fedor Emelianenko shows no emotions and doesn't stop until he eliminates his prey.
He may not have the body building physique but I'm sure Emelianenko could give up the ice cream cones for a few weeks to develop some beach muscles.
Emelianenko may not have futuristic weapons or super human strength but his two hands definitely qualify as weapons of mass destruction.
Frankie Edgar- Rocky
2 of 14No that's not a picture of Frankie Edgar in between rounds, although his and Rocky Balboa's faces end up looking very similar by the end of their fights.
Edgar has absorbed an insane amount of punishment in his title defenses yet keeps coming back to get in his opponent's face. This punishment includes the opening rounds against Gray Maynard in their last two bouts and, more recently, his fight with Benson Henderson at UFC 144.
It wouldn't be a true underdog story if Edgar/Balboa didn't lose along the way, so now the New Jersey based fighter can make an even more incredible comeback.
Cristiane Santos- Kill Bill
3 of 14Cristiane Santos doesn't have the looks of Uma Thurman but she can still kick as much butt as "The Bride" character in Kill Bill.
Instead of having to use an array of cables to make Thurman fly through the air, they could've saved a lot of money by simply giving Santos a pair of MMA gloves and unleashed her.
The director wouldn't even need any stunt doubles as they could play clips of Santos' beatdowns during her MMA career.
Lyoto Machida- The Karate Kid
4 of 14This one was a gimme. Without a doubt Lyoto Machida could walk onto the set of the next Karate Kid reboot and instantly turn into Daniel-san.
But let's go one step further and say Machida could even play the part of Mr. Miyagi. Let's face it, Machida is a karate master, already shown the unstoppable crane kick and would no doubt have some great wisdom to teach a young fighter.
Given the fact he chooses to train deep in the Brazilian jungles, I bet he knows a few magic healing techniques like Mr. Miyagi too.
Phil Baroni- Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story
5 of 14Phil Baroni and Dodgeball's White Goodman are very similar in that both think they're the best and are completely in love with themselves.
Baroni's career has hampered by his beach muscles just like Ben Stiller's character was too focused on himself. Perhaps if Baroni had worked out at "Average Joes" instead he would've developed a little better cardio?
I'm sure the script writer could write in a "I'm the best eva!" into some part in the film if Baroni played the part.
Gray Maynard- Rocky IV
6 of 14Arguably the greatest villain in the Rocky films was Ivan Drago. Likewise, Gray Maynard has been Frankie Edgar's (Rocky) biggest/best rival to date.
Maynard is much bigger than Edgar and had us all believing he was going to put Edgar into a coma with that dominating first round in their match-up at UFC 130. Eventually, Edgar overcame his adversary in the later rounds of their third meeting and defeated the anti-hero.
"The Bully" would've been a great fill in due to his massive size at lightweight and complete lack of a personality to go with his monotone voice.
Nick Diaz- Scarface
7 of 14Nick Diaz has played the role of a villain for much of his career. That's why he'd be a perfect fit for Tony Montana in Scarface.
Diaz says what he wants and moves to the beat of his own drum just like Montana does throughout the movie. The director could even get the Cesar Gracie crew to be Montana's friends/business partners.
Instead of a cocaine addiction, the script could be rewritten for a marijuana addiction. Strictly legal usage only, though.
Matt Serra- Goodfellas
8 of 14Besides having heavy accents, Matt Serra and Tommy Devito from Goodfellas are known for having a lot of fight inside a small frame.
Serra, a naturally much smaller fighter, has competed at 170 pounds for most of his career. Being the smaller fighter, Serra had to put up a front of being a tough guy just like Devito did in the movie.
The Renzo Gracie product won't be killing any innocent young men while playing a card game, but Serra could definitely pull off having a Napoleon complex for a few hours.
Pat Barry- Shaun of the Dead
9 of 14Although not the lead role in the film, the character Ed from Shaun of the Dead stole the show. The same could be said of Pat Barry.
Barry won't be found near the top of the heavyweight rankings, but his personality and fan-friendly fighting style have made him a popular fighter.
Since Barry will be playing the part of best friend maybe we can get "Cro Cop" to fill in for Shaun?
Chris Lytle- The Fighter
10 of 14Chris Lytle's career was very similar to the part of Micky Ward's career shown in The Fighter.
Lytle, who was down on his luck used The Ultimate Fighter to pump new life into his career and virtually started a new career as a top fan favourite fighter. He may have not won a title like Ward did but Lytle definitely experienced the trials and tribulations of being a "journeyman" fighter.
As an added bonus, the Indiana native had a career as a pro-boxer so the film crew wouldn't need to bring any help to train Lytle.
Jon Jones- The Bourne Saga
11 of 14Jon Jones isn't suffering from amnesia and searching for knowledge of his true identity, but the UFC champion is searching for some fan appreciation.
Oh, and he's kicking a** and taking names along the way, just like Jason Bourne in The Bourne movies.
Jones has displayed a lot of the superhuman characteristics shown by Bourne, and has dismantled every opponent in much the same manner Bourne has defeated numerous unfortunate extras.
Quinton Jackson- Pulp Fiction
12 of 14Quinton Jackson would've made a good Jules Winnfield on the mannerisms alone. When you add in the loud voice, "Rampage" would've been a perfect replacement.
Samuel Jackson won a Best Supporting Actor award for this role, which would give Jackson some tough shoes to fill.
However, I have no doubt "Rampage" would've been just as entertaining and done just as well with Winnfield's rants and dialogues.
Anderson Silva- The Matrix
13 of 14Anderson Silva must've taken the red pill earlier in his life. Watch the video and look at the crazy similarities between the Neo character and Silva's fighting capabilities.
Instead of requiring fancy cameras and weeks of training martial arts, Silva could've stepped in and performed all the amazing moves in one day of filming.
Plus, Silva has twice the personality of Keanu Reeves.
Chael Sonnen- Anchorman
14 of 14Chael Sonnen's ramblings sound similar to the out-of-this world claims made by Ron Burgundy in Anchorman.
Sonnen is solely focused on himself much in the same way Burgunday is throughout the film. All the directors would need to do is replace Burgundy's sexist remarks and attitude with Sonnen's anti-Brazil persona.
Sonnen's recent comments about giving Anderson Silva's wife a pat on the a** gets him even closer to being a perfect fit for this role.
