NBA Rumors: Kyle Lowry Is Only Acceptable Piece to Pau Gasol Trade
The Lakers seem hell bent on shipping out Pau Gasol for help at the point guard position, but the only player that makes a lick of sense is the Rockets' Kyle Lowry.
The Lakers continue to have their eye on Lowry but past rumors suggested that Houston wasn't interested in parting with their budding young star. That seems to have changed.
Sam Smith of Bulls.com reports the Rockets may be sold on other players taking care of the point guard position if they could indeed steal Gasol from the Lakers. Smith writes.
"The deal that’s been most speculated is Gasol for Luis Scola and Kyle Lowry. The Rockets are said to be high on Goran Dragic and Jonny Flynn to replace Lowry, and the Lakers desperately need a point guard under Mike Brown’s system. This is a deal, denied for now, that benefits both teams and seems likely to be made.
"
The New York Post's Peter Vecsey adds fuel to the fire of Lakers rumors by issuing Pau Gasol is closer to gone than he is to staying in LaLa Land.
"Some deals may actually be getting close to finalization and the Lakers are in middle of them. They're determined to acquire a point guard sooner than two weeks from now. If it's a multi-player transaction, Pau Gasol will be sacrificed.
"
In his Insider roundup, ESPN's Nick Borges reports the following:
"Jameer Nelson could be part of a deal if the Lakers and Magic agree to a trade. Ramon Sessions is another target and the Cavaliers may be willing to part with him if the Lakers are willing to give up a first-round pick.
"
What you have is a few avenues with only one really making a great deal of sense, and that would be the Lakers taking on Luis Scola and Kyle Lowry for the Spaniard.
Jameer Nelson has seen better days, and they weren't this season. Ramon Sessions would be a fine and inexpensive option, but acquiring him would hardly be the move of a franchise trying to get back to the finals.
Lowry has emerged as a potential star, averaging 15.6 points and 7.6 assists per game with the Rockets.
Scola could fit in nicely and add some defensive grit in place of Gasol. He would fit in perfectly with Bynum on the low block.
The main point is Mike Brown's system needs a prototypical point guard that can lead a team offensively, and Lowry is the only player with enough upside to warrant getting rid of Gasol.
If the Lakers are indeed done with their Spanish giant, which I believe they are, the only trade that makes any sense is one that secures Lowry in a deal .
