WWE News: Vince McMahon Issues Decree to Wrestlers Regarding John Cena

Imaan JalaliJun 6, 2018

While Vince McMahon is capable of taking necessary risks, he also knows when to hedge his bets.

With the biggest pay-per-view event in recent memory on the horizon, McMahon is adamant about ensuring the main event of WrestleMania 28 goes off without a hitch.

That match—The Rock versus John Cena—is one that has been constantly publicized since the night after WrestleMania 27.

Because The Rock isn't an active wrestler and is mostly outside of the WWE domain, McMahon can only hope "The Great One" doesn't suffer any surprise setback to his health prior to April 1.

John Cena, on the other hand, is a different story.

Because the West Newbury native is a full-time employee and continues to wrestle on a nightly basis, McMahon has reportedly taken extra precautions to protect the one-half of the WrestleMania main event he has control over.

Here's the news report (h/t WrestleZone.com):

"

WZ has learned this evening that Vince McMahon has stressed safety to all talents who will be working with John Cena from now until WrestleMania 28.

There have been a slew of recent injuries suffered by the talent, some more severe than others, as we have been reporting. Randy Orton, Mark Henry, and most recently Wade Barrett, who will be out past WrestleMania, have all suffered some type of injury during competition. This is in addition to the close call injuries such as R-Truth's missed spot with The Miz a few weeks ago and Dolph Ziggler being medically tended to after last week's Raw battle royal.

McMahon has ordered any talents who work with John Cena not to take any "unneeded" risks in the match. McMahon is putting the weight of WrestleMania 28's success on the shoulders of John Cena and The Rock. The Rock won't be wrestling any matches between now and WrestleMania, which has forced the Chairman to make it a point to the entire roster to work as safe as possible with Cena."

One cannot blame McMahon for telling his wrestlers to take it easy with John Cena in the ring with "The Show of the Immortals" being just mere weeks away.

The last thing the WWE chairman needs is for Cena to be the recipient of a dangerous move, take an unnecessary bump or be the victim of carelessness inside the ring.

Although some may consider it a stretch, The Rock versus John Cena in Miami is the kind of marquee match that can change the landscape of pro wrestling going forward.

It's reminiscent of the larger-than-life bouts that not only headlined WrestleManias III, VI, XII, XIV, XVII and XXI, but marked key transition points in the WWE.

Regardless of who's the victor of the main event, WrestleMania 28 will not only break financial records, but will set off a wave of momentum that could make wrestling cool again.

Thus, given the event's potentially significant implications (not to mention the recent rash of injuries), McMahon, in this case, would have been a fool if he had not gone out of his way.

Simply put, McMahon's edict that his performers play it safe with Cena is a move that's best for business.
