College Football Recruiting 2013: The 5-Star Recruits in the Rivals100
Rivals has released their world famous "Rivals100" earlier than expected this year, and it's a list that every recruiting fan looks at frequently. I do my own evaluations and make my own list, but I take a peek at the Rivals myself.
Naturally, with any list such as this, we all want to know which prospects got the infamous 5-star label. Well, for this read, I'm going to give you the recruits Rivals says are the creme de la creme of the 2013 recruiting crop right now.
Here's to a 5-star read!
11. Tyrone Swoopes, QB
1 of 11Rivals has given Swoopes a 5-star rating and has him ranked 11th overall. He is a 6'5", 220-pound dual-threat QB from Texas who is already committed to Texas.
Many compare Swoopes to Vince Young, as he has similar size and athleticism. I think Swoopes likely has a better release and delivery motion, but he can dazzle as a runner like Young.
10. Vernon Hargreaves III, CB
2 of 11Hargreaves is a 5'10", 177-pound CB prospect who is among the top DBs in the country. He hails from Tampa, Fla., and has excellent play instincts.
Hargreaves can factor in off-coverage due to his transition quickness, ability to flip his hips and speed to carry deep. Miami, USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida State and Michigan have all offered.
9. Thomas Tyner, RB
3 of 11Tyner is a thick RB prospect—6'0", 200 pounds—from Oregon, and Rivals has him listed with sub-4.4 speed. Tyner reminds a bit of Johnathan Stewart, but he may not be as athletically smooth as Stewart was.
However, Tyner has good run strength, power and can break away for long runs.
He's committed to Oregon.
8. Max Browne, QB
4 of 11Rivals has Browne as its top QB prospect for 2013, and Browne has caught the eye of many schools across the country. He tossed for more than 4,000 yards and 45 TDs last year.
At 6'5" and 200 pounds, Browne has an easy delivery, good arm strength and solid accuracy. Alabama, USC, Oklahoma, Auburn and Clemson have offered, among others.
7. Cameron Burrows, DB
5 of 11Burrows picked off four balls last year and slapped away another 12. The 6'1", 195-pound DB is from Ohio, and he compares somewhat to Travis Blanks.
Burrows likely will be viewed as a CB, but don't count out safety just yet. He's already near 200 pounds and will likely add more weight in college due to natural growth and weight training.
He's committed to Ohio State.
6. Kenny Bigelow, DT
6 of 11You want a DT who can push the pocket and rush the passer from the interior?
Bigelow is your man—the Delaware native hauled in 15 sacks as a junior.
Bigelow stands 6'3" and 280 pounds, and has an excellent first step to jump blockers at the snap. He then uses great quickness and athleticism to get around them and finish on the passer.
USC has his commitment.
5. Su'a Cravens, DB
7 of 11Cravens was all over the field as a junior, totaling 100 stops, three picks and 11 sacks from his safety position.
At 6'1" and 205 pounds, Cravens is an exceptional athlete who likely will be a safety in college. He can play SS or FS, and his talents will make him a prime recruit for this cycle.
4. Kendall Fuller, DB
8 of 11Fuller hails from the same school as Stefon Diggs and Wes Brown. Playing DB, it would have been awesome to see some Fuller vs. Diggs one-on-ones in practice.
At 6'0" and 185 pounds, Fuller has the athleticism, speed mirror ability, hips, quickness and recover ability to be a great college corner. He also can play WR for a team and dazzle with the ball in his hands.
3. Laremy Tunsil, OT
9 of 11Tunsil is the top OT prospect in the country, per Rivals; the Florida native stands 6'6" and 275 pounds. He shows easy movement in his sets, slides well and has the athleticism to adjust when mirroring.
Tunsil's frame can easily tack on another 30 pounds, and not lose any athleticism. His offers include Alabama, LSU, Florida State, Florida, South Carolina, Notre Dame, Michigan and USC.
2. Reuben Foster, LB
10 of 11At 6'2" and 240 pounds, Foster had more than 180 tackles and 14 sacks as a junior.
So, it's safe to say that he's productive, wouldn't you think?
Foster is the best LB prospect in the country, and the Georgia native is already committed to Alabama. He can play in any system and fill any role—he's that gifted, that instinctive and that talented.
Foster is a future superstar in Tuscaloosa.
1. Robert Nkemdiche, DE
11 of 11I predicted weeks ago that Nkemdiche would open the cycle likely as the No. 1 overall prospect, and I was right. He tops the Rivals100 board, and for good reason.
At 6'5" and 270 pounds, he's ready to play college football right now. Nkemdiche has a chiseled frame, college strength equivalent of a redshirt junior's, elite quickness and athleticism.
He can play DE or DT, and will be a superstar wherever he ends up. Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, LSU and USC have offered, among a slew of others programs.
