NBA All-Star Weekend: Predicting the Winners of Every Event
It's that time of year again. Time to watch your favorite stars dunk, shoot and pass their way to excellence. Even if your favorite team doesn't have representation in a certain event, there is always someone to cheer for, or against, in every competition.
Handicapping these kind of games can be tough, but here is who is going to win each different event.
Celebrity Game MVP: Vinny Guadagnino
1 of 7Sorry Bieber fans, this year's vote will have to go to someone other than the teenage singer.
Last year's MVP got teen girls everywhere to vote for him, and Vinny from Jersey Shore is the only player in this years game who could reach that demographic. Whether Vinny has any skills or not is a different matter, but at least he can make a hook shot from a foot away.
Needless to say, there are some people who can play in this game, but with the fans voting, Vinny is a lock to win MVP honors.
Rising Stars Challenge: Team Shaq
2 of 7If this were a regular game, Team Chuck would win in a landslide.
He picked a team that compliments each other at all positions, plays defense and overall seems to be built around some sort of logical thought. Unfortunately for Chuck, this is an All-Star game.
Blake Griffin, Jeremy Lin, Ricky Rubio—possibly the three most exciting players in the league, now get to strap up and play on the same team. With defense being played as little as possible, last years score was 148-140, the team with the high-flyers usually wins. Add in Lin's connection with teammate Landry Fields and the alley-oops are endless.
One interesting subplot is John Wall. Last years Rookie-Sophomore game MVP, is mad about being taken so low in the draft. If Wall can find a way to coincide with MarShon Brooks and Kyrie Irving in the backcourt, Team Chuck may have a chance to compete with Linsanity and Blake.
Shooting Stars: Team New York
3 of 7With the return of sweet-shooting Alan Houston accompanied by Landry Fields and four-time WNBA All-Star Cappie Pondexter, New York should be able to take this one home.
This competition really comes down to luck, as it is the first team to hit the half court shot usually wins, but New York should have an advantage time-wise with the shooters on their team.
Skills Challenge: John Wall
4 of 7My original choice for this event was Stephen Curry, last year's winner. The only player who posted a time under 30 seconds, Curry flew through the course, but has now been replaced by Rajon Rondo.
This event combines ball handling and quickness, two things Wall possesses. He is already mad about being taken so low in the Rising Stars Draft, so he won't be taking this event as a joke.
Look for Wall to come out fast, and blow past the competition in the skills challenge.
Three-Point Contest: Anthony Morrow
5 of 7The three-point specialist of the New Jersey Nets will be competing against a great lineup during this years three-point contest, but he has the skills to stay competitive as he is currently hitting just over 40 percent from behind the arc this season.
With marksman Ryan Anderson, Mario Chalmers and James Jones as well as the star power of Kevin Love and Kevin Durant, this should be an entertaining competition.
Look for the three-point specialists, Morrow, Jones and Anderson to be the ones walking away with the trophy, and Morrow should be able to outlast those two and earn the win.
Slam Dunk Contest: Jeremy Evans
6 of 7If you didn't know who Jeremy Evans was before this weekend, you are not alone.
The reserve guard for the Jazz is only averaging 5.6 minutes per game this season. When he does get into the game, he does one thing. He dunks.
With a nickname like "The Human Pogo Stick" you would expect Evans to be a leaper, and this is exactly what he is. Jazz teammates and coaches were campaigning for him to get in the contest, and with Iman Shumpert pulling out because of a knee injury, Evans got the nod.
With the vote going directly to the fans this year, a big name like Blake Griffin or LeBron James would win in a landslide, but this year's competition has under the radar guys, so it looks like the best and most creative dunks will actually win.
All-Star Game: Eastern Conference
7 of 7This game comes down to scoring, as defense is at a minimum during the All-Star game. This season, the lineups are pretty even, and this should be an entertaining, and close game.
LeBron James, Derrick Rose and Dwyane Wade have too much scoring for the West to handle, and if anyone is going to play any defense during this game it will be Andre Iguodala and Luol Deng.
While Kevin Durant and Kobe Bryant will be shooting every time they touch the ball and Blake Griffin will undoubtedly have some prime time dunks, look for the East to play better overall basketball.
