Chicago Bears: Rex Grossman Signs One-Year Deal
Just before the free agency period begins, the Chicago Bears reached an agreement with quarterback Rex Grossman.
Grossman agreed to a one-year contract worth $3 million, plus possible incentives worth around $2 million if he's the starting quarterback in 2008.
Bear's GM Jerry Angelo has said no promises have been made to either Grossman or teammate Kyle Orton regarding who will be the starter next year.

Angelo has also said the job would be up for grabs by whoever preformed best in Training Camp. He also hinted that up to two other quarterbacks could possibly be entering the race via free agency.
The Bear's General Manager didn't mention veteran Brian Griese returning to the team in 2008. Speculation is that Griese will be released in order to avoid a $300,000 roster bonus he will soon be due.
John Clayton of ESPN reports that several players on the Bears offense have been lobbying for Grossman's return.
The Chicago Bears will probably try even harder to re-sign wide receiver Bernard Berrian to a contract before the free agency period begins. The Bears are expected to use the re-signing of Grossman as an incentive to lure Berrian back to Chicago.
On the web site of the Minneapolis-Star Tribune, a user commented on the signing of Grossman. The user said,
"I am glad the Bears signed him. Now we don't have to hear the talk of the Vikings maybe picking him up. As long as Grossman is a Bear, we always have a shot at beating them."
I suspect that other teams and other fans feel the same way.
