Georgia Football: One Good Reason the Bulldogs Can Beat Every Opponent in 2012

Brian JonesJun 7, 2018

Let's be clear about one thing first and foremost:

This is not to say the Georgia Bulldogs will go undefeated in the upcoming season. This is only looking at their schedule and figuring out how the Bulldogs can have an edge in each game.

The Bulldogs did not lose a lot of talent, so they are poised to have another run and win the SEC East once again.

And the way the schedule is set up for the Bulldogs, they can start the season strong and finish even stronger if they remain healthy and don't have too many off-the-field issues.

So here's a look at why the Bulldogs can beat every opponent this upcoming season.

Sept. 1: Vs. Buffalo

1 of 12

This will be the first time both teams have met, and the reason Georgia has an edge in this game is simple: The talent for the Bulldogs is better than it is for the Buffalo Bulls.

Since head coach Jeff Quinn took over for Turner Gill in 2010, the Bulls have only won five games total and have placed at or near the bottom of the MAC.

This game should (and more likely will) be over after halftime, and it should be a good warm-up game for the Bulldogs as the SEC schedule kicks off the following week.

Sept. 8: At Missouri

2 of 12

This is going to be a really interesting game since this will be the first SEC game for the Tigers, so emotions are going to be running high.

I think what gives the Bulldogs the edge in this game is experience, and what I mean by that is, Mark Richt has no problem having his teams ready to play in hostile environments and coming away with a win.

In fact, the Bulldogs were undefeated at opposing teams' stadiums last year; their only losses came at Sanford Stadium and at neutral sites.

Again, this should be a win for the Bulldogs, but that is not to say the Tigers will make it easy.

Sept. 15: Vs. Florida Atlantic

3 of 12

Again, this will be another non-conference opponent the Bulldogs have never faced.

The reason the Bulldogs have the edge in this game is the same reason they have the edge against Buffalo: overall talent.

The Owls have a new head coach in Carl Pelini, who did some good things as defensive coordinator for Nebraska, but he will have to try rebuilding a team that only won one game last season.

This should be one of the games where the Bulldogs have the game in hand by the third quarter.

Sept. 22: Vs. Vanderbilt

4 of 12

This will be an emotional game for both parties, because after Georgia defeated Vandy in last year's meeting, there was a scuffle between Commodores head coach James Franklin and UGA defensive coordinator Todd Grantham.

The reason the Bulldogs have the edge in this game is the psychological factor. Vandy should have defeated the Bulldogs last year, but they weren't able to capitalize on the Bulldogs' mistakes.

The Bulldogs know they are better than Vandy and will look to prove that this season.

It should be a fun game because Franklin will have his team ready to go.

Sept. 29: Vs. Tennessee

5 of 12

Last year, the Bulldogs defeated Tennessee in Knoxville 20-12, and the game was not that close.

The Bulldogs will have the edge of coaching in this game.

Over the last few years, fans have criticized Richt for many things, but he knows how to manage the game and make sure the team does not make too many metal mistakes.

UT head coach Derek Dooley has issues with players making too many mental errors; part of that is youth, but they have to be better than that if they want to compete in the SEC.

This is a must-win for both teams, but unless the Vols have turned the corner, I don't see the Bulldogs losing this game.

Oct. 6: At South Carolina

6 of 12

This is a game that could give the Bulldogs problems, because the Gamecocks have had the Bulldogs' number the last two years.

I think this game will come down to the quarterbacks, and Aaron Murray has an edge over Connor Shaw.

Murray played well last year, but made some costly mistakes that ended up being the difference in the game. He will learn from those mistakes and should have a big game against the Gamecocks.

I'm not sure if the Bulldogs win the game, but it should be very close like it was last year.

Oct. 20: At Kentucky

7 of 12

Kentucky is a team that is trying to get out of the SEC East cellar, and it looks like it won't happen this season.

Georgia has the edge because, out of the 65 times these two teams have played against each other, the Bulldogs have only lost 12 times. In fact, since 1996, the Wildcats have only defeated the Bulldogs twice.

Last year the Bulldogs were able to hold off the Wildcats with a 19-10 win. This year, I don't think it will be that close.

Oct. 27: At Florida

8 of 12

Last year, the Bulldogs defeated Florida for the first time since 2007. So, the reason the Bulldogs could win this game, is the fact that they are now confident they can win in Jacksonville.

Another reason could be that the Gators aren't the same team without Urban Meyer, but the Bulldogs getting a rare win against the Gators last year should give them motivation to do it on a consistent basis.

It should be an interesting game to say the least.

Nov. 3: Vs. Ole Miss

9 of 12

This will be another game where the Bulldogs have the better talent and the better coaches.

But what give the Bulldogs the edge in this contest in stability. Ole Miss will have a new head coach in Hugh Freeze as well as new coordinators. So, it will take some time for the Rebels to get used to the new system.

That's not to say they won't pull off a major upset this season, but the Rebels will have their share of growing pains, and I don't see the Bulldogs losing this game.

Nov. 10: At Auburn

10 of 12

Based on what happened last year, the Tigers are looking to get revenge on the Bulldogs. But Aaron Murray gives the Bulldogs the edge in this contest because he tends to play well against Auburn.

In the last two games against the Tigers, Murray has thrown for nearly 600 yards, seven touchdowns and zero interceptions. He seems comfortable playing against their defensive scheme, and that should not change this year.

Nov. 17: Vs. Georgia Southern

11 of 12

Georgia has faced Georgia Southern only four times, and the Bulldogs have won all four meetings.

The clearest edge for the Bulldogs is they are an FBS team, while the Eagles are from the FCS. That being said, Georgia Southern is one of the best FCS teams in the country and could win the national title this year.

But the Bulldogs are more talented and should win by 20 if they remain focused at the task at hand.

Nov. 24: Vs. Georgia Tech

12 of 12

As good of a job as Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson has done with the Yellow Jackets, Richt knows how to defeat the team from Atlanta, and that's the biggest edge the Bulldogs have.

Since 2001, the Bulldogs have lost to the Yellow Jackets only once, and that was in 2008. What this means is Richt has won the recruiting battle against Johnson, and it looks like that trend will continue for a while.

This will not be an easy game, but the Bulldogs should be able to pull away in the fourth quarter.
