Miami Heat: What Mario Chalmers Means to the Heat
It's easy to watch LeBron James and Dwyane Wade dominate Miami Heat basketball games. The duo are two of the most electrifying players to ever play in the NBA. Their dominant play has given the Heat the edge over the NBA's top teams heading into the All-Star break.
What seems to often go overlooked is the splendid play of the Heat's role players. Role players don't get the spotlight, but deserve a lot of credit.
Mario Chalmers is making his case as the Heat's best role player behind Udonis Haslem. He has been everything the Heat could ask for playing the point guard position this year.
He is having a career season by shooting 52 percent from the field and 46 percent from beyond the arc.
Most importantly, Chalmers provides the necessary spacing on the court for his superstars.
Mike Miller, Shane Battier and James Jones were all expected to be the spot-up threats on the Heat's roster, but Chalmers has exceeded them all. He's shooting the ball with confidence. When LeBron or D-Wade are driving to the basket, they are now looking Chalmers' way.
Mario hasn't seen the slump of Shane Battier. He doesn't know of the injury bug that seems to always find his way to Mike Miller's house. Chalmers isn't one-dimensional as James Jones. He has even outlived the early Norris Cole hysteria with his solid performances.
The kid can hit the open shot, drive the lane for a floater or find a cutting teammate.
All the question marks at point guard for the Miami Heat have been answered and it's thanks to Mario.
