WWE Smackdown Results: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Justin WatryJun 7, 2018

WWE presented Super Smackdown tonight, and I thought it was a fun two-hour show. Nothing major happened, but it featured some good wrestling, as well as nice storyline advancement. If I had to grade the show, I would fall in the B range!

The Good

I enjoyed the opening segment. Daniel Bryan delivered a nice promo with AJ by his side, and the crowd was definitely treating him like a heel. That is great.

As I predicted back in November, a heel turn had to be coming. The way he was acting with his "teases" of cashing in his briefcase were more than enough to convince me. Others tried to justify his actions, but it was useless. He was under going a character change, and it has been wonderful!

I am not sure where AJ fits into all of this, but she did look excellent tonight! Eventually, Miz came out to talk alongside Bryan. The history between these two men is interesting, but they made it work.

Sheamus came out to add even more fun to the opening segment. This led to a Sheamus vs. Miz match that was short, yet fun. Sheamus continues to win, just as he should all the way to Wrestle Mania.

There was a backstage segment with Teddy Long, Aksana, Johnny Ace and David Otunga that was entertaining. It set up a few things down the road, but all of my attention was on the "it" girl!

Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler defeated Kofi Kingston and R-Truth in a good match. All four could have a great future with WWE, and I wish them nothing but the best in 2012. On a side note, Vickie Guerrero looked exceptional out there.

Santino Marella and Heath Slater were both funny backstage. I laughed, and that is all that matters with moments like this.

The Great Khali defeated Drew McIntyre in less than a minute. I am still waiting for this "story" with Drew to unfold, so I will reserve judgment for now. As long as I get to hear Khali's great theme music again, I am happy he won!

Big Show vs. Mark Henry was the usual "big man" match. It was fun, but you can only do so much. I am not sure if Henry is healthy right now, but I truly hope so. Him having a match otherwise is not OK in my book. Also, an actual "ending" to this match should have happened.

Cody Rhodes came out during this to show a "Big Show Mania Moment." This week was his Sumo Match against Akebono in 2005. I assume we will be seeing a lot more of these. This could be a cool gimmick for a while, but I am not sure how much I care to see Rhodes/Show in Miami.

WWE production is amazing. The video package for Triple H vs. Undertaker was excellent. Not only was it a great presentation, but they also had a PPV event Sunday night. Then, WWE had a live Raw last night. Now a live Smackdown! Seven hours of television? Wow.

The main event between CM Punk and Daniel Bryan was fine. There was a lot of distractions throughout, but it was given plenty of time, and both men can "go" in the ring!

First, Punk pinned Bryan thanks to Sheamus. Then, it was restarted. Then, Bryan got a "cheap" win. This was just a big mess, but I will let it slide this week. If more of this continues, I will care a little bit more.

The Bad

I like David Otunga's WWE character. He does a great job and had been very entertaining the past few months. Ezekiel Jackson is on the opposite spectrum right now. Good talent, but no steam right now.

Their match on Raw was fine. Tonight, I just didn't care. Attorney at Raw won the match, and I think I yawned. Speaking of, how is Christian's big return working out? Is Alberto Del Rio around either?

The Ugly

I have a few problems with WWE and their latest "Twitter war."

1. I have been a wrestling fan for over 20 years. In late October, I joined Twitter. Take a guess at how many WWE/TNA/ROH talents I follow. Any guesses?

Zero!

CM Punk is the latest example. I just simply don't care for any of this in my timeline. If something major happens, I will find out about it on my own. Not on a social media site.

2. Next, I just don't think it is smart for "protecting" the business. I love WWE using Twitter for promotions and such. However, the thought of these larger-than-life talents sending out messages is not my kind of thing.

3. Finally, I have zero nice words for who this all centers around. The front page of TMZ.com is covering this story, but I would rather stay out of this. The "man" Punk is going after isn't even worth a mention.

You all know his name. You all know the controversy. "He" isn't worth it. Whether WWE has a deal worked out with him or not, I going to stay far away from this.

Outside of this article, do not expect much more from me on this. Punk needs to separate himself from this and let the man live his life. Trust me, karma will come back on his life. I have zero good thoughts on this man.
