Brady Quinn Looks Cowardly After Backing Off Tim Tebow Comments
Brady Quinn made a strong statement that drew praise from many, and then lost it all about an hour later.
Quinn was interviewed by Yahoo! Sports Mike Silver for GQ Magazine and the story has been constructed in a way that makes you think Quinn wasn’t the biggest fan of Tim Tebow, the QB ahead of him on the Denver Broncos depth chart.
He suggested Tebow was incredibly lucky. He believes Tebow passed him on the depth chart because of all the fanfare around him. But then he took it to the next level when talking about Tebow’s faith:

"If you look at it as a whole, there's a lot of things that just don't seem very humble to me. When I get that opportunity, I'll continue to lead not necessarily by trying to get in front of the camera and praying but by praying with my teammates, you know?
"
Silver is very respected within the industry and his credibility is strong. There's no reason to think he made anything up.
Obviously the reactions have been all over the map, as is anything Tebow-related, but there were many people that were on Quinn’s side. What’s the harm in actually telling the media how you feel? It was refreshing, regardless of what side of the fence you sat on.
Yet the backlash of bashing Tebow proved to be too much for Quinn. He released a statement via Twitter that sounded like a textbook request sent down to him from his agent:
"The comments attributed to me in a recent magazine article are in NO WAY reflective of my opinion of Tim and the Broncos. Tim deserves a

"Team's or Tim's success this season.
— Brady Quinn (@BQ9) February 21, 2012"
Why do you think Quinn felt obligated to say the interview happened three months ago, which was in November, right in the middle of Tebowmania? Has his jealousy subsided over the last three months?
According to ESPN's Staff, Silver has responded to Quinn's statement that his comments were taken out of context.
""Silver, on his own Twitter page, said 'I quoted him accurately. Interview on tape.'
In another entry, Silver said: 'I have the transcript and take (sic) to back it up. I do agree that Brady is a standup guy, and his tone was not bitter.'"
Honestly, this really isn’t a huge story. The backup thinks he should have been the starter. Happens on every single team.
"
If Quinn would have just let his comments be, then he would be privately celebrated among other Tebow-haters in the NFL. The only result is that the free agent wouldn’t return to the Broncos, but at least he let the world know how he really felt.
Now, after a weak apology of sorts, the odds of him coming back to Denver are still about 1,000,000-to-1 and he looks like some sort of politician that flip-flops based on the public’s response.
The quotes are already in print, you can’t take them back. He claims there was an “inaccurate portrayal” of his comments. Well Brady, if you are quoted as saying something, the writer is simply putting those words down on paper. People are able to draw their own conclusions.
If you didn’t mean to sound so harsh when talking about Tebow, apologize for it. Don’t go out and blame a reporter who has proof of the entire interview.
Quinn is trying to deflect the blame and it makes him look like a coward, like somebody who is simply trying to keep the masses happy. He had a chance to make a real statement from an insider’s perspective on Tebow and failed miserably.
What did Quinn really expect? He said the team had a lot of luck this season. That is a shot at Tebow and any good journalist would use the comment. Quinn criticized the way Tebow expresses his faith: of course that’s going to be printed.
I have no problem with Quinn saying these comments. It’s every bit his right to. But stick to them. Don’t back off the second people disagree.
With a chance to regain the spotlight if only for a day, Quinn failed miserably…
sort of like his career as a quarterback in the NFL.
