Davonte Neal: ESPN 150 College Football Recruit a No-Show at Decision Ceremony
Davonte Neal was a no-show at his college football decision-announcing ceremony today, according to The Tuscon Citizen. Why would the Top ESPN 150 college football recruit (No. 8 overall) make that kind of idiotic mistake?
Neal is the top athlete in the 2012 class and the last unsigned recruit in the ESPN 150. He was a two-time Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year. At 5'10" and 175 pounds, he has the size and speed to play either wide receiver or defensive back at an elite level in college.
Neal has vacillated between schools: Arizona, Notre Dame, North Carolina and Arkansas.
But now those schools have to be wondering: Why didn't he show up? Did something terrible happen? And, if not, do we want that kind of bonehead on our roster?
College football recruits are under a lot of pressure, and they sometimes pull stunts. Many flip commitments. Others tease schools and coaches all the way to National Signing Day.
But what Davonte Neal did was rare. He set up a big event with college football notables present at his old elementary school where 600 kids were taken out of class. Then he failed to show up. That's a first.
When Neal is found, fans and schools will find out why he did not make the ceremony. If it is a legitimate reason, all will be forgotten. If not, the perception that he is completely irresponsible will dog him for years to come.
