Manchester City Transfer Rumours: 6 Summer Replacements for Carlos Tevez
Carlos Tevez remains on the books at Manchester City, but with the summer transfer window looming, the Argentine forward looks destined to move away from the Etihad Stadium.
Today we'll be looking at six possible replacements for Tevez, who guided City to the FA Cup title in 2011 before falling out with manager Roberto Mancini.
What do you think about these guys? Have someone else? Let us know in the comments.
Stevan Jovetic
1 of 6Montenegrin forward Stevan Jovetic, 22, signed a new contract with Italian club Fiorentina late last year, and Jovetic reportedly said he intends to see out the deal.
Edinson Cavani
2 of 6Last fall, Manchester City were linked with Napoli forward Edinson Cavani, who is also thought to be a Chelsea target. The link to City was quickly shot down.
Cavani, 25, has scored 10 times in 36 caps for Uruguay. Entering Tuesday, he had netted 22 times this season for Napoli.
Robin Van Persie
3 of 6Arsenal striker Robin van Persie reportedly has been told he won't be allowed to leave Arsenal this summer, for any price.
Speaking of prices, Manchester City in December were supposedly ready to offer £30 million for the Dutch superstar
Gonzalo Higuaín
4 of 6Follow the winding trail for a moment.
Manchester City and other English clubs reportedly showed interest in Real Madrid's Argentine forward Gonzalo Higuaín last summer.
This month, reports emerged that Real want to sign Manchester City's Sergio Agüero next summer. To fund the move, Real apparently want to sell Higuaín to Chelsea.
But it stands to reason that City also could be interested if they're forced to sell Agüero.
Karim Benzema
5 of 6You also have to go all the way back to last summer to sniff out Manchester City's connection to Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
But there it is: Real reportedly wanted to swap Benzema or—you guessed it—Higuaín for Carlos Tevez. The deal clearly never materialized, but it's not out of the question that City would take another look at Benzema in the future.
Andy Carroll
6 of 6Not that the fans would want him, but City reportedly had a chance to take Andy Carroll off Liverpool's hands in exchange for Tevez.
If Carroll keeps misfiring, we could see him being available next summer for cheap—or at least cheaper than the £35 million Liverpool paid for him.
For City, a cut-rate deal might actually be attractive.
