RangersMedia Club News: Kris Boyd to Birmingham

RangersMedia .co.ukJan 6, 2009

Rangers have confirmed tonight that an offer has been made by Alex McLeish at Birmingham for Rangers' prolific striker Kris Boyd. It is claimed that sources from inside St Andrews are 75% certain that Boyd will be a Birmingham player this week. A fee of £3 million perhaps rising to £4 million has been discussed.
Speculation is mounting that Rangers will move to bring in David Healy as a replacement.

THE GAMES

Let's hope that the old adage of start as you mean to go on applies to Rangers start to 2009. A very good 3-0 win over bottom of the table Inverness along with Celtic dropping points at home to Dundee United brings us into the new year with a touch more optimism than when we left 2008.

Don’t get me wrong, the first half of the game was awful and I wouldn’t have blamed anyone for walking away after 45 minutes and heading home.
If they had though, they would have missed a very special Mendes goal which kick started our game and allowed us to play decent football and roll out as convincing winners with another Boyd brace. The start of the winning run we’ve been missing?

A Rangers side made up of mainly under 15s, with the addition of a couple of under 16s took on a visiting Dutch Regional Select at Murray Park the other day.

The Rangers youngsters were much quicker and stronger than their Dutch counterparts running out comfortable winners. The Dutch side passed the ball well without really troubling the young Gers.

Rangers took a 2-0 lead by half-time with goals from Mark Taylor and ??. With several changes made at half-time they quickly found their Rhythm and added further goals from Mark Taylor, Michael Mosson, and Gary Fraser.

Rangers legend Arthur Numan took in the game, which I am sure this must have been a boost for the youngsters in both sides. The final score was 5:0.

The Rangers team was as follows:

Sam George; Ross Dickson, Scott Rumsby, Murray Wallace, Chris Hackland; Lewis McLeod, George Scott, Robbie Crawford; Mark Taylor, Lee Cochrane, Ewan McNeil.

Subs: Gary Fraser, Michael Mosson, Francis Owens, (along with two trialists).

It was announced today that a bounce game has been arranged no doubt for a mixture of fringe players, reserves and youth players. The game will take place at Gayfield on the 9th of January. Pardon me for being cynical but does anyone else think that there might be some invited scouts from other teams present?

THE TRANSFERS

The window has now re-opened with the first of the transfer dealings saw JCD head out of Ibrox on the first of the month. Alan Gow is also in advanced stages of negotiation with Wolves for an as yet unknown six figure fee and it is expected this will be completed this evening.

Other confirmed deals have seen four young players head out on loan, Paul Emslie and Alan Lowing have re-joined Clyde till the end of the season. Lee Robinson and Mark Weir have also joined QOTS and Kilmarnock.

The rumour mill has seen Captain Barry Ferguson as the main talking point with Newcastle, allegedly, his main pursuers. They have also shown interest in McGregor, Bougherra and Mendes and half of the rest of the Old Firm. Also today rumours surfaced of Kris Boyd interesting Birmingham and Alex McLeish again.

The usual suspects have been touted as incoming targets with the scariest of all being the link to Lee Wilkie!! Hreidarsson is probably the newest name in the picture.

THE INJURY FRONT

Naismith was back in the full squad for the trip to Inverness, which is great news. Thommo has also undergone his operation and is targeting preseason as his comeback. Get well soon Thommo.

As for the weekend, Miller and Mendes came off early with what looked like a knock but no serious news has filtered through.

THE REST

All the focus this week had to be on the second and the anniversary of the Ibrox disaster. Absent friends will always be remembered. Also, Walter Smith has commended Nacho Novo on his desire to play for Rangers and the drive and purpose he showed in the second half of the game at the weekend.

The Ferguson Factor
Written by djw1992
http://home.rangersmedia.co.uk/index.php/a...ferguson-factor

This article feels timely now that there is so much speculation surrounding our captains future. Are Newcastle preparing a bid...is our management lying that there has been a bid...is Kinnear lying...and now Barry apparently wants a contract extension. It's all a little bewildering and it seems to have came out of the blue; especially considering Ferguson has not reached any kind of form this season so far.

Djw1992, within this article considers the form and influence of Ferguson since he came back from Blackburn all those year ago. Interestingly, within the article Djw raises and interesting point that he feels Ferguson is being disrespectful of the managers he works under as he roams around the pitch too much and doesnt follow the managers wishes.

Now that point is definitley based purely on conjecture, yet it is interesting nonetheless.

Rangers Target Triple H: Healy and Hermann Hreidarsson
Written by Andrew McNair

This is the first article to be written by a new contributor to the website, Andrew McNair. Andrew has been doing some sterling work for a website called Bleacher Report as a Senior Writer and is a huge bluenose himself. We look forward to many more contributions.

This article, however, discusses two players we have been linked to in todays press. David Healy—we all know its transfer window time when his name is mentioned!—and Herman Hreidarsson. Andrew intimates his own opinion on the potential signing of these players—an opinion which can be surmised by the closing sentiments of the article:

"So there you have it, old and mediocre. It’s starting to become a habit and something Rangers are getting a reputation for"

Do you agree with the article? Would you be happy if we signed this pair?
