Baron Davis and J.R. Smith Could Make Debuts for Knicks on Sunday
If you've been waiting to see the New York Knicks' latest acquisitions, Baron Davis and J.R. Smith, you may not have to wait much longer.
All the rage around the Knicks has been about point guard Jeremy Lin—for good reason—but now that their seven-game winning streak has ended and the "Linsanity" has subsided for the moment, questions and concerns regarding the fluidity of the roster remain.
The Knicks have been dealing with injuries, have signed new players and are soon going to have a new look.
According to a report from Yahoo! Sports, the Knicks' new faces may suit up and make their debuts as soon as this Sunday against the defending world champion Dallas Mavericks:
"But Smith and Davis have outside chances to make their Knicks debuts. The Knicks signed Smith on Friday and D’Antoni said his preference is not to play him before he’s had a chance to practice, but the shooting guard is in shape after playing in China, so D’Antoni said the team “will see what happens.”
Davis has been recovering from a herniated disk in his back. He took part in a 3-on-3 workout Saturday, and has regained his conditioning after having to shut it down late last month following an infection in his elbow.
“He’s close. He could go, I think he could play tomorrow,” D’Antoni said. “We’ll see, but I want to work him a little bit gradually.”
"
Davis, a long-time NBA veteran, has been sidelined by injuries, but is still expected to play a major role with the Knicks.
Smith, on the other hand, was playing in China during the NBA lockout and was ineligible to return to the NBA until that season ended. He chose to sign with the Knicks upon his return, and hasn't even had a practice with the team yet.
Carmelo Anthony is still unlikely to play, and the report states that him coming back on Monday is a bit more realistic.
Davis has career averages of 16.5 points and 7.3 assists a game, while Smith comes in averaging 12.5 points per game during his seven-year NBA career.
It's important to note that Smith and Anthony were teammates in Denver.
