NFL Combine 2012: Superstar Athletes That Will Impress at Scouting Combine

Patrick ClarkeJun 3, 2018

There are a number of athletically-gifted football players participating in this year's NFL Scouting Combine in Indy, but only a few possess the necessary wow-factor to impress more than they already have throughout their college careers.

Baylor's Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Robert Griffin III is one such physical specimen that NFL coaches and scouts will have their eyes on this February. Much like last year's No. 1 overall pick Cam Newton, Griffin III brings another dimension to the position, the rush threat, and it's a deadly one considering just how great of a passer he is.

So, which college superstars will shine bright thanks to their rare athleticism? Check it out.

Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State, WR

At 6'1", 215 pounds Blackmon is as strong as they come at wide receiver. The two-time Biletnikoff Award winner has made opposing defenses look like school children the past two seasons in Stillwater, catching more than 230 balls for over 3,300 yards and 38 touchdowns.

Blackmon is nothing short of a beast on the field. The Oklahoma State junior can run after the catch with any wide receiver in the draft and elevate higher than the defense to snatch a ball at its highest point. There are few things that Blackmon cannot do on the football field, so look for him to post jaw-dropping numbers at the combine.

Robert Griffin III, Baylor, QB

The Heisman Trophy winner was the most exciting player in all of college football this past season and that is a testament to his athletic superiority. Griffin III threw for 37 touchdowns last year while rushing for another 10. Few college quarterbacks have ever been so consistent through the air and on the ground.

At 220 pounds, Griffin III is solid enough to take the hits at the next level, but because of his elusiveness and physical strength, that won't be necessary. Griffin III won't be easy to get down in the NFL and his numbers at the scouting combine will surely suggest that.

Morris Claiborne, LSU, CB

Another junior who has nothing to gain from another year in college is LSU's Morris Claiborne. Claiborne won the Jim Thorpe award as the top defensive back in college football this past season. The junior picked off six passes for the Tigers this past year while playing in every game, recording at least one tackle in each and demonstrating some superb return skills.

At 6'1" and 185 pounds, Claiborne is an ideal defensive back in the NFL. He can run with elite receivers and out-jump anyone for a 50-50 ball. If he does make a play on the ball, Claiborne is one of the few athletic talents in the combine capable of taking it back for a score on most occasions.
