Jeremy Lin: Knicks Superhero Returns Favor by Vouching for Carmelo Anthony

Gabe ZaldivarFeb 16, 2012

One magnanimous gesture deserves another. Jeremy Lin continues to prove he is a great man who deserves every last bit of good fortune that is coming his way.

There have been some who think Carmelo Anthony couldn't possibly coexist with the emerging superstar that has taken the sports world by storm. Lin has extinguished those thoughts in one interview he delivered on Thursday morning.

Lin joined WFAN’s Boomer & Carton show on Thursday and dived right into Linsanity and everything that has surrounded the best sports story of the year.

One of the more interesting subjects to be broached was that of Carmelo Anthony and the thought that this "selfish" player couldn't share the ball or the spotlight with Lin. Anthony continues to be sidelined with a groin injury.

Lin explained that nothing could be further from the truth in the interview. Taken from CBS New York

"

I’m just confused, because he’s the one who vouched for me in the first place. We want to play together and we want to work together and we’re buying into that.

You know, some people are calling Melo selfish and (saying), "He doesn’t buy into the team." I mean, that’s just tough for anyone to hear. Especially when we don’t think it’s true.

I don’t want to come out here and shoot 20 shots a game. But if that’s what the defense gives me, on those nights that’s what I’m gonna have to do.

"

This comes at about the same time that Carmelo Anthony was answering the same type of questions. Via Los Angeles Times:

"

That's like a slap in the face. I've never been a selfish player. None of my teammates I've ever played with would say that I was a selfish player. Nobody.

"

Yup, this is pretty much the national media beating this story from every last angle to get the most out of an insane turn of events.

Lin backed up the story that Melo went out of his way to make sure he got a chance. There is also the fact that Lin proved he can play without taking many shots in the Knicks' recent win against the Kings. He jacked up only six attempts from the floor and took home 13 assists.

It's time to put this tired story to bed, because there is no negative angle to Lin and his rise from D-League scrub to vaunted Knicks point guard.

The dude can play and is beyond humble, wanting nothing more than to get his guys the ball and have this team win ballgames. That is exactly what was needed before Melo went down with injury, and it is still what they need today.

Listen to the interview and notice how Lin reacts to questions on being asked by security if he was with the team or a trainer before his rise to stardom. It's a funny story that would have been glossed over by lesser men.

Instead, Lin finds time to give the security guards props. The man has not met one person he didn't appreciate, so you can bet that the franchise player will get a ton of love in the form off great passes from Lin shortly.

Until then, enough of this.
