College Football: The Offseason To-Do List for the Georgia Bulldogs

Brian JonesJun 3, 2018

Now that recruiting is out of the way (sort of) and spring football just weeks away, the Georgia Bulldogs are focusing on the 2012 season.

Odds are they are going to be a top 10 team when the first rankings of the season are released. Players like Aaron Murray and Jarvis Jones will be on watch lists for national awards.

There's a lot of things the Bulldogs have to do before they get to that point because they have a lot of issues that need to be addressed in the offseason.

Winning the SEC is not easy. If the Bulldogs want to win the conference, they have to be better in all three phases of the game and it starts with having a great offseason.

Here's the offseason to-do list for the Bulldogs.

Establish the Running Backs

1 of 5

There is no question that talented Isaiah Crowell has all the tools to be a great SEC player.

But based on the way he ended his freshman season, the coaches had to make some moves by signing Kieth Marshall and Todd Gurley.

So now the Bulldogs have to figure out who will start on opening weekend in September. If Gurley and Marshall take snaps away from Crowell, he could transfer to another program.

If Crowell proves he is tough enough to be an SEC running back, the Bulldogs will be more effective and could be a national title contender.

Establish the Offensive Line

2 of 5

The Bulldogs need to find three new starting offensive lineman, so it's safe to say that all five spots could be up for grabs.

Georgia signed John Theus, Greg Pyke and Mark Beard last week and all three have a chance to earn one of the three spots.

Veterans such as Austin Long, David Andrews, Watts Danztler and Xavier Ward have also been waiting patiently to see game action.

Let's not forget about Dallas Lee, who suffered a season-ending injury midway through.

Georgia's offensive line competition may be the most interesting storyline of spring football as well as summer camp.

Find More Defensive Backs

3 of 5

This is an absolute must because Georgia has only nine scholarship DBs on the roster after kicking Nick Marshall and Chris Sanders off the team.

Newly signed Sheldon Dawson could see action at corner to add depth. The Bulldogs could also do the same thing to Malcolm Mitchell because there have been talks about him playing on the defensive side of the ball.

Nonetheless, the secondary is thin and the Bulldogs have to address it sooner than later.

Fill the Roster

4 of 5

The Bulldogs need to add more scholarship players to the roster.

Because Sanders, Marshall and Samford Seay are no longer with the team, the Bulldogs have seven scholarship spots to fill by the summer.

One player that the Bulldogs are trying to nab is Mario Alford, who spent last year at Georgia Military College in Greenville.

Alford is one of the fastest players in the state and could get an offer by the end of spring.

Don't Cut Auburn

5 of 5

There have been recent reports that the annual Georgia/Auburn game could be sacrificed because of conference expansion.

It would be a huge blow to "The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry," because of the huge draw for both teams.

It's clear that the Bulldogs have to do whatever it takes to make sure this game is played this year, next year, the year after that and the year after that.

I don't think any Georgia or Auburn player, coach or fan could imagine not playing this game in early November.
