Ronda Rousey Verbally Attacks Cristiane 'Cyborg' Santos on G4TV
Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos has become the next target of Ronda Rousey's public abuse.
The outspoken Olympian appeared in an episode of "Attack of the Show" on G4TV, where she talked about Cyborg's recent suspension and her upcoming title bout against Miesha Tate.
"I was [going to fight Cyborg] until she got popped for steroids, big surprise," said Rousey. "She was [No. 1] ranked until she got stripped of her title, and deservingly so, don't cheat."
Cyborg was suspended in January after testing positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol. Initially, the suspension spelled doom for the ladies of the sport.
After defeating Gina Carano for the Strikeforce title in August 2009, Cyborg became the face of women's MMA. There are few females on the planet who exhibited the power and athleticism of Cyborg. She changed the way fans looked at women's MMA.
Some journalists even went as far as penning her alongside the men as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world, after her crushing 16 second knockout victory over Hiroko Yamanaka.
In an interview on TapouT Radio, Rousey talked about the lasting effect Cyborg's actions would have on women's MMA.
""I don't think this has thrown a monkey wrench into the credibility of women's MMA. I think it threw a monkey wrench into the credibility of Chris Cyborg, and I think you have to rethink all of her wins before, over Gina Carano, Marloes Coenen, and all these girls. You know, it's not like she beat them on technique, and if she wasn't doping, she wouldn't have won any of those fights. I think it adds to the credibility of those other girls who actually fought with technique and integrity. They weren't being crushed by this chick. She was using, and you know what, if they were using too, it would have been a different ball game. I think women's MMA is better in general with her gone."
"
Cyborg responded by tweeting Rousey a photo shopped image of a badly beaten Carano. The inscription on the image read, "Next victim Ronda."
It was some rather dark humor that didn't sit well with Rousey.
"She put up a thing on her Twitter, and it was like a photo shopped picture of Gina after they fought, which I'm sure isn't the first time Cyborg has used photo shop...the shrink tool," laughed Rousey. "No one would even know who [Cyborg] was if it wasn't for Gina. If you hadn't beaten her, no one would know who you are."
"If you weren't doping, you wouldn't have beaten her, and [Gina] was nice to her about that. She didn't say anything about her doping. I was just pissed off, and I was like, 'you know what, you don't just have a [expletive], you are a [expletive] for posting that picture of Gina you cheater.'"
Hopefully, there are more where Rousey came from. Whether you love or hate her, she has really given women's MMA new life, and people are beginning to pay attention.
Rousey is set to challenge Tate for the Strikeforce title on March 3. If she proves her bite is as bad as her bark, she could be proclaimed as the newfound savior of women's MMA.
"If you pronounced [Miesha Tate's] name wrong, I would've loved that, but you actually pronounced it right," Rousey told "Attack of the Show" host Kevin Pereira, when asked about training.
"I think I'm the most dangerous unarmed woman on the planet. Literally, I could kill every single person in this room with my bare hands if I had them one at a time. I wouldn't do that, but I'm just saying, I could do it."
